So, here's a little poll I wanted to throw together. Trying to get some opinions, and some motivation to go out and possibly get a custom map done.

How do you have your PCIII programmed?

I started a thread in the 600rr section with no replies about this subject. I have a Micron CF slip-on and a K&N filter.

With the stock map, my bike seemed to run just fine.
With the map for the Micron exhaust/stock filter, the bike bogs and generally runs worse than the stock map.

I would vote on this but my verdict isn't in until I get a custom map done to see a difference. So far I vote taking my PC off and reselling it because it doesn't do me any good.

I've got a micron exhaust, and the stock filter. My bike is a little off and its running a tad bit rich by my estimations. I didn't think the k&n airfilter would change things that much, to make your bike run worse then stock. Some-one has to have the map for that set-up. Anyone have any good suggestions for places to download maps? Otherwise, I would try to google it.

I bought my bike with the K&N filter and the Micron slip-on already installed with no Power Commander. After I installed the PC, I just loaded the stock map because of a trip I took so I drove 500 more miles with the stock map (which ran pretty normal). When I got back, I loaded up the Micron exhaust/stock filter map and have noticed that it runs kinda crappy. My main complaint is that the bike will die at idle sometimes after loading that map. I thought it was because the bike was cold the first time it happened but it has been more frequent as time goes on.

I think my solution is just to do all the mods I can do without making it a track bike and putting it on the dyno. For now I am going back to the stock map. I have Google'd for maps since I loaded mine up and I haven't had any luck thus far.

I found a guy that does custom maps for about $100 bucks. He says he does qwite a few of them each year (70 or 80 so far this year.) I'm probably gonna hold off til later this fall, but if he does a good job with the maps, then that just goes to show that their are a few people out there that are willing to give you an honest price while working on your bike.

Here is a link look at m108-012. I just downloaded this map and am very happy. Bike runs way better. I have an 06 with the exact same setup. Hope this helps.

I ran without a PC for a few months after adding a micron and the bike ran good. But when I added the PC the bike ran great. You'll be fine. Just get the PC later.

Tyler I saw your post on pc mapping and I see 2 options for micron slip on. My micron is the dual outlet. Is that the high mount option?
Which did you use?

Hopefully someone here can help. I didn't get any help my other forum. I have a 2003 600rr with a twin carbon d&d exhaust, stock air filter(i think). i might upgrade to a k&n or Bcm (right?). anyway, i can't seem to find a map for that setup ANYWHERE. does anyone have a custom map or knows where i can download one??? thanks, robert.

I have a full Ti Leo Vince exhaust, while the bike runs pretty good I can tell its lean in the mid range, think installing a PC would help?

i would like to know how you know that...

There is a dip in the power band around 6000-7000, im just guessing its lean because in my past experience when its overly rich it appears more like a stumble but hey im just guessing, I just wish the power delivery was more linear.

so really... you have no idea if it's running lean or rich... or neutral. You can't ever tell just by feel alone. unless you've got a a/f ratio analyzer (like those found on most dynamometers) you're only tossing grass in the wind. the tough thing about S/O systems is that they will run rich on one side of the RPM range and Lean on the other, so looking at the plugs alone isn't a very reliable indicator.

If you've got a PowerComander, you have little excuse not to get it custom programed for your bike.

I'm using the only map power commander has on their website for the 05 600RR with a slip on.  I took it to a dyno to have it tuned, told them I had the PC3 USB and wanted to have it mapped right for my bike.  They were grateful because they were doing pieces of crap choppers all day and had to actually tune the carbs and so on.  They were happy because with a PC III USB, all they have to do is watch the dyno runs and make changes with a computer.  No tinkering with bike really.  After the 3 pulls, they gave me the maps and said there was nothing to adjust.

anyone have a PCIII on their bike (O3) with a two bro slip on that is not using the net map?

well - if it starts backfiring you can tell it's mostly likely lean ;)

If it performs better on a really cold day it's probably rich.

I'm not sure I understand this whole not mapping thing. I guess people install pipes just for looks... but if I'm going to sink that kind of money into my bike I'm going to want to get the biggest positive change I can... getting it properly tuned for the new variables installed will do that, and also, be better for the bike.

I know these bikes are FI now, and it's not quite the same as installing a full system on a carbed bike and burning the valves off of it by running so lean... but still, a good map will make the bike run like it can...

i have a downloaded map, and it isnt perfect, but it is MUCH better than no PC at all. may consider getting it custom tuned though...

Let me clarify, I mean that has a custom map or one not downloaded of pc web site. I am using the #004 for the 2003 but it isn't very good just wanted to try a different one.

I installed a full system on my 03 back in august and ran it with no PC.  I noticed the bike was working better and had it dyno'd.  Sure enough, on the whole it was up almost a full 6hp from just bolting on the exhaust, however super rich in the mid-range.  Now I added the PC in Sept/Oct and right off the bat just loading a map from the PC site I noticed a difference.  I picked one that had the best looking a/f in the midrange and love how it works now, no probs yet *knock on wood*.. However I am going to get a custom map done after more funds free up.  It's working better then stock at the momment but not as good as it could be.  I dont really care about peak hp, it's all about the curve
