I was just looking at random parts for my bike and I found a Factory Pro Evo Shift Star Kit. Has anyone had any experiences with shift kits. are they worth it?

That is so wierd. I was just looking at the factory pro website and reading about false neutrals on the vfrworld forum. I am curious about this myself, for the VFR. I hit a false neutral every once in a while, and was wondering if this would fix it.

False Nuetral? like it popping into N when it really shouldnt be? I have had that a time or two.

On my VFR, after riding for a couple hours and getting comfortable, sometimes between 5th and 6th I will not pull up far enough on the lever and it will ratchet and rev up like it is in neutral, then pop back into 5th gear. Scary stuff, sounds like hell and lurches the bike. Supposedly that kit makes the shifts feel more solid and precise. But you have to get the whole thing, not just the spring and lever. The key is the star wheel.

I've had this happen too, only on my '90 F1. It sounds like some piece fell off inside and is griding the gear and then it pops back down and lurches like you said. It freaks me out so i pull the clutch in but then it goes away and doesn't happen for a long time. dunno what causes it..

Mine did that when i was driving it out of the driveway i bought it in.
If those kits do what they claim, i think the $200+ price is fair. Im no racer, but quick, solid shifts are never a bad thing.

Check your drive chain tension. Mine was too tight, when I loosened it, the problem got better on the Viffer. Might also move the shifter lever down one tooth too.

Too loose or too tight can cause problems. 1-1.5 inches of slack is where it should be. Approximately, I know I am not getting the ruler out. When I measured mine on the VFR it was so tight I could not move it. I just picked it up three weeks ago so I guess the PO overtightened it. He seems to me like he wasn't too bright. Who puts only 6k miles on a bike in 9 years? I have had it three weeks and put almost 2000 miles on it. *shrug*
