anybody know what would cause a ticking sound when the bike is engine braking? when i downshift and ONLY when i downshift and let the bike engine brake, it makes this ticking sound. any ideas? it's an '01 f4i.

You got me so far, but I'll look around. Do you have any mods that need to be listed? I don't have one, but I know slipper clutches make a lot of noise when you're engine braking. The only other thing that pops up, is your oil level? Low oil and high rpm will cause the lifters/valves to “peck” and you might now hear it as much when you’re accelerating because of the louder exhaust noise. Sorry for the simple suggestions, but we all over look simple ones at times.

my cruiser does that a little. when you are accelerating, its there, but barely. on downshift, something about the strain on the engine is different and it gets a lot louder. but i know we are talking about 2 different worlds. its a v twin air cooled motor.

hopefully someone on here can help you... cause I'm not that good at interpreting sounds.
