DO what ever your budget can handle.......FIRST and work from there......

I think most do a Exhaust first. Gotta do what you gotta do......first lol
Good Luck !

Not a possible list -- I'm never finished modding a bike until I sell the damn thing

(A)performance
1. adjust suspension for personal taste
2. power commander
3. steering damper
4. brakes- ss lines and upgraded pads
5. 520 conversion
6. tires
7. exhaust
8. air filter
9. upgrade clutch
this is not the order that i did everything but it is the order i would follow if i did it again. as far as looks goes, i haven't done to much other than a different windscreen and fender eliminator. that's something that you would have to decide for yourself.

for me... performance then aesthetics... unfortunately my budget can't handle the performance right now so I've done some aesthetic stuff... here's a list in order of what I've done...
1. Frame sliders and swing arm spools (performance safety)
2. set up suspension (performance)
3. Signal mirrors and c/f block off plates (aesthetics)
4. DIY F/E (aesthetics)
5. G-Craft Rear Ressy (both)
6. Stomp Grip Tank Pad (both)
7. SS Lines (performance)
8. GPR Damper (Performance)

1. Suspension set up would be at the top of my list.
If you're under 180 you should be able to dial it in with the OEM suspension. But if you are like me, 6'5" 250 lbs, you need to change the springs, valving and have it dialed in. No matter how fast your bike is if you can't control it then it doesn't matter.
2. Exhaust, slip-on, but preferably full. In my case 3/4 system for the 929 or 954. Thinking about a Micron Serpent full system.
3. Power Commander PCIII USB. Don't worry about the R model no need for street use. USB is a must due to the expansion slots for the Speed shifters and Wideband.
4. Undertail, get rid of that ugly ass stock fender. Only anesthetics with in the performance mods.
5. Factory Pro ignition advancer (gain of TRUE 2 hp) and Evo shift kit.
6. Speed-O-Healer.....not need to show excessive mileage when it is not true.
7. Wheels/520 conversion...reduce rotating mass. Working in the Wheels.....
Then I would go with aesthetics form here, no particular order.

Depends on your skill and the bike you've got. For example, why dump a lot into performance mods on a 600 instead of buying a 1000 instead?
So for a newb like me I'm going to keep my 600 for a while and do mostly aesthetic mods like the ones I've done so far. I've added a new pipe which could be considered as a performance mod, but I really did it for sound quality, which is aesthetic. I have no intention of adding a PC on this bike. Doesn't matter what you do, a stock 1000 will beat the hell out of a fully modded 600 any day, so what's the point?
If I had a 1000, I'd still start with aesthetic first, because you don't really need that much in the way of performance adds to a 1000.

i take it you're referring to just dumbo straight ahead speed...then liter yes...
but as far as cornering, track, etc...a liter will not beat the snot out of a modded 600 anyway, it's the better rider and the person who knows the bike better.
plenty of people on 600s eat up liters at the track...and the fastest person at the track is not always the one with the liter bike.
suspension is considered a performance mod...and liters don't necessarily have better suspension than a 600.

Here's what I did to my race bike and any other future race bike. Not much mods on the street bike other than a slip-on exhaust, power commander and steering damper.
1. Respring and revalve the forks and shock
Replace brake lines with stainless steel and change stock pads to Vesrah
Steering damper
520 conversion and change the sprocket sizes(-2 front, +2 rear)
Replace the exhaust and replace stock air filter with a K&N
Power Commander with custom mapping(s)
Race tires
Replace stock body work
2. Rearsets
3. Replace the stock front brake master cylinder with a Brembo radial master cylinder
order doesnt matter, just get it all doen in the end

The difference in speed, top end litre bike all day. With the right gearing a 600 keeps up. The 600 is lighter and easily out handles the 1000.
