rear suspension question

Where is a good place to look for a heavy duty suspension for my bike. I probably should buy a new (bigger) bike, but I really like my F4i and have gained weight over the winter. Not that I was small before, but ever since I quit smokin I gained 50lbs. I wish exercisin was a option, but I work 12hrs a day right now and who wants to go to the gym after that

depends on how much cash you wanna spend.
Im cheap, so updgraded just the fork spring with Ohlins, did it myself for like $90, and I am in the process of upgrading the rear spring to an Eibach, for like $80. although, a whole new rear shock is the preferred way to go, ~$500.

what is your riding style? are you hardcore twisties and track days or just casual commuting?
IMO, if you are just commuting, you could upgrade just your springs and make due just fine. be out a total of less than $200 if you DIY.
but, if you are serious about needing suspension for performance, well, .......
you got another 12hrs a day your just laying around aparrently- so you should use that time to pick up another job to pay for the suspension upgrades.

im with krash here depends on what u do, if u want go to racetech and get custom springs for the frotn and rear. makes a huge difference with the proper srping rate

I would do the other job thing, but it's already hard enough to find time to spend with the wife and kids as it is. I just casual ride. Stuntin days are long since over, and we only have a few roads around here with twisties, and no tracks. I was just thinkin of the 2 up ridin and such. I guess when your in your mid 30's it's time to go with a cruisin bike for that. Thanks for the response. I am pretty lucky though My family never gives me any flack for wantin to just take off a ride for a few hrs.

Mid 30's is no time to slow down. I am 33, married, 1 child, and work a good 50-60 hours every week and travel 80%. So I know time is a limited resource.
my wife doesnt mind so much when I take off for an hour or two, but I never do that. My routine is almost every sunday when its warm I leave the house at 9am, and and dont come back until about 6pm. then I'm gone either to a track or the mountains on the bike about 1 full weekend a month.
I think my wife actually prefers it when Im not home.

If you work nights, go before work to get your metabolic rate going.

Do larger displacement bikes have more hardcore suspension? I'm 240lbs right now (trying to get back down to 200 by the end of the riding season) maybe I need to get a 1000rr for my weight?

^^^ not trying to sound like a dick but why get a bigger bike just to accomodate your unhealthy body? Why not just go on a diet and excercise? Its a win-win. You get in shape and save some money. As far as the original post goes, even 3 hours a week in the gym combined with a healthy diet would help. In not a smoker and can't imagine what its like to quit. I work 56 hours a week and still make it to the gym 5 nights a week. You don't even really need to go to the gym just jog or ride a bike. If you don't work too far away from home maybe ride a bike to work. Again not trying to be a dick.

larger bikes have stiffer springs to accomodate their own weight. they are not for heavier people. just upgrade you bike with stiffer springs and you will be fine. plus it costs a lot less.

1000cc wasnt made for heavier ppl, they are made for more experienced riders that think they need more power than a 600. But yes the 1k's have better suspension but its because of the increased performance of the bike.

lol So true.... I love Qdoba soooo much though!!! But you're right and I am a lardo. I just got $150 worth of beachbody.com dvd's that I'm going to start working with 30-45minutes a day + keep up my 3miles every 2 days of running and TRYING to eat less. I already quit drinking pretty much so that's good.

Springs make a night and day difference in the bike when set up for your weight.
I work twelve hour days and still use the 1 hour after work to go to the gym.Makes me feel 100% better at home and at work.Plus makes riding easier.
For a cheap upgrade.Just install some racetech springs (front/rear),change the fork oil and then setup the sag.Cost with me doing the labor under 150.00 total. Plus doing it yourself, you can change them again as you loose or gain weight.
Along with a better ride you will also have better front tire wear.
Im 265+ geared up(leather jacket, pants, gloves, boots etc).I run a racetech .95 front spring and a 15kg rear spring.Rides great .I use mine for commuting and weekend in the hills ..

Try eating in smaller portions but still get atleast three meals a day. It will boost your msetabolism and you'll get better results. Theres a thread with a lot of helpful info on weightliss in the off topic forum
