Well an off duty cop saw me doing a wheelie today, and followed me untill other cops could get there and pull me over. I didn't think to much about it,thought they would give me a ticket and let me on my merry way. But no they arrested me and charged me with reckless drivng. My very pissed off wife just bonded me out. Could not believe they arrested me for something i thought was a minor offence. This is going to end up costing thousands with the court costs and everything else. So dont be a retard like me,and do wheelies on public roads.

Thanks for sharing. I would have never thought of an off-duty cop being the cause of a ticket. I already received a ticket myself and I am trying to behave more on the public roads (except for my favorite, desolate back-roads)
Sorry to hear about the bad news. Hopefully it will keep a few others from doing the same thing

Such is the nature of the world. As the OP stated, take it somewhere else. The boys in blue will be esp. unforgiving during the holiday season when travel is up and they are working OT.

Please tell me there was something particularly dangerous about this wheelie- excessive speed, crowded streets, something. I'm really beginning to hate cops, and stories like this aren't helping. The cops around here are complete morons. They'll pull people over in the worst places on the interstate, right in the middle of rush hour. My coworker was almost in a major accident with a merging semi because some idiot cop created an incredibly dangerous traffic hazard just to write a speeding ticket.

you mean other than the fact that wheelies are illegal regardless of how fast or who is in the street. me personally id prefer a cop that does the job my tax dollars pay him to do.
id like to move to florida to watch all the idiots on 1 wheel lose their license and get their bike auctioned off. id have a garage full in a few months

You sound like a man on the campaign trail, what a load of crap. You've rolled through stop signs, sped excessively, made "unsafe lane changes", and have done several things to your bike that violate federal laws. If the agencies enforcing these laws imposed the maximum penalty for all these offenses, you'd be fine with it because that's what your tax dollars are paying them to do? Yeah right. Don't be a phony legalistic wiener.

I got a ticket for doin a wheelie and speeding last year , but I never got arrested. That seems like they were takin just a bit overboard. I think the off duty cop should have minded his business on something like that. He was off duty and the only reason he should have done something is if you were on a crowded street or weaving in and out of traffic, cutting people off, really taking chances at hurting other people and not just yourself.

Be grateful it didn't happen in Florida...
http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/28/10-year-ban-for-popping-a-wheelie-in-miami/ I've seen sooooo many people dump doing wheelies over the last twenty years, I was never compelled to do them. All the power to people that can, but I don't think its really that cool. If you're going to do it, make sure there is no traffic around. I think you're just asking for trouble if you do.
I've noticed that the first thing new riders want to learn is how to wheelie a bike.....Times have really changed.
Be safe, have fun and happy holidays everyone!!!

No i wasn't speeding, and there wasn't anyone on the streets, just a black charger behind me which was an off duty cop. I did it to myself but surely didn't think i could be arrested for it.

Man, i guess if you see a burning building, and you're off duty, a child is about to burn to death you wouldnt do anything?? b/c you're off duty???. everybody is a different person, case, and state laws can differ.. so keep your comments to yourself, as I have driven a few drunk firemen home before they got themselves killed or killed someone else. "nothing better to do?" thats the misconception, while you guys are sitting in the firehouse becoming better cooks, and smelling each others farts, playing checkers, were out there protecting you and your families, friends, raising your kids, ect..ect..I can not believe that you can be so ignorant, especially when you work with other cops. go work at your local burger king and see if your free whopper card will get you out of the numerous tickets you would've had if you weren't a fireman with your firemans badge and i.d.. think before you talk, from the way you spoke you sound young and IGNORANT...

WOW.. I hear those boys along with Virginia, are getting real crazy with handing out summons to MTORCYCLISTS.. be warned guys and be safe...that sux that you have to go through that before the holidays, always look at the positive, if he wouldnt have stopped you, you might of crashed and hurt yourself later, or killed someone.. b/c of this you chilled out for a bit, and probably prevevnted something worse from happening.. be careful out there,....

Stuff like this is retarded but is going to happen. Hell, I got a $400 ticket b/c I parked 6" too far over. Here we can pull up beside the doors at places like Wal-mart and it's legal to do. I saw several Harley's lined up so parked right beside them. I go inside and come back out and there's a cop w/parking security handing me a ticket and threatening to tow the bike. They explained that I parked in front of a fire exit door. I was about 20ft away from it in the parking area but about 6" or less of the bike was directly in front of the door, though about 20' from it. So all the other bikes were fine but I got a nearly $400 ticket and my endorsement suspended for 30 days. Bullshit AZ laws.

Yeah that's what i told the cop,i said it's probably for the best, before i end up wrecking. I surely wont be doing anymore. This will be one hell of a expensive wheelie. 325.00 to get my bike out of impound, 709.00 to get out of jail, another 750.00 in court costs come jan 18th, plus 550.00 for a traffic lawyer to try and get it dropped to improper use of a motor vehicle

And you an be sure They are on these scoping these sites to keep up with sh757t! My neck gets sore from looking around and I really just like hard acc. Getting away from traffic stuff like that. Getting away from cars may sometimes look crazy to the people driving but feel very good about my strategy. If I do go real fast I crack it on the freeway for a very short time up and down when its clear. Its enough to get me buy without loosing my license.

Sorry please disreguard my last post. It was half way correct. I was on the phone while typing. Looks like I had to much eggnog. Bottom line I try to have my fun as safe as possible on public roads. My my main goal is the farther away I can get from cars the safer I am. That can be fun!

Yep, that's right.
Wheelie, stoppie, do all the stunts you want, go as fast as you want, just do it on the track, or somewhere out of the public at large's
way.
Squids make us all look bad.
Actually, I think a new name needs to be made as squid is too kind.
I'll have to come up with something just for my usage.
Nothing personal at the OP.

I am not a stunter but I have done a few power wheelies and such when taking off hard, but I have never been pulle dover for it. I know in IL most of the cops I have talked to are cool to a point. . . but you will always have the hard ass cop and you will always have the cop that is a tool it is just luck of the day.
The best way is not not play on the street their is a ton of tracks and lots to play in.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
And yes, a reckless driving ticket usually ends up in an arrest, or a mandatory court appearance.......depending on how dangerous the officer feels the offense was. Doesn't matter how many excuses you tack onto it (back road, no traffic, etc. etc.), it was still a wheelie on a public road which is illegal and carries a hefty fine/punishment.

This event highlights one of the biggest flaws in traffic law enforcement. You can be charged with "reckless driving" for almost any act, and the punishment can vary from a warning to getting arrested for any given offense. There's no consistency, it's up to the whim of a grumpy cop. Getting thrown in jail for popping a wheelie on an empty road is nothing but overzealous law enforcement nazi stupidity.

LOL.. go do some paper work and eat a burger or a donut. i did volunteer work for 2 years so of course i would attempt to rescue someone if i was off duty. i understand you guys try to keep the public safe but there has been many times where ive been pulled over for the littlest things. no license plate in the front, no seat belt, bike parked on the sidewalk. it gets old.
