Most are self made. I would assume that if you had one on your bike and you get pulled over you are going to be in a world of hurt.

and now to rant:
Why would someone use this product for anything other than street use. You guys are jackasses. Im calling AMA to see if they can get a legislator to sponsor a bill to outlaw this stupidity. These kind of things are why riders have a bad rep.

Yeah I've heard from a few guys that have saved themselves a good amount of fines by that

I seen a guy that had his plate mounted with a hinge to the back of his bike, so that when it was sitting stationary it was down so you could read it normally. But then when you start to get on it the wind forced it to go up, hiding the plate.
Sorry I have no pics of the thing, but thats the best I can explain it.

And here is my rant:
That's really sad. I've had a cousin and best friend die over there... I don't think it is something you should be using to get out of a speeding ticket... And I gotta agree with demonchild, it's people like you that give us a bad rep.

Well im sorry to hear that, and my thoughts are with you, im not trying to be an ass hole or anything like that, im 22 years old and have been deployed to iraq 4 times now. And just because i want a licence plate retractor doesn't give you the right to judge me, so it would be great if you didnt thanks

I looked at the pics on the webiste and really dont see any advantage to having these on your bike, on the track or street. It looks like the bracket is about the same size as your plate would be. Seems like a waste of money to buy this kit. If you had a handmade unit like mentioned earlier that flattens the plate as you go faster that would make more sense aerodynamically. Well thats just my two cents worth, for what its worth (about two cents last time i asked my wife :)

So what is going on in this thread? I go from all the love over at "The Time Has Come..." to this one...
You guys are all hating on a kid (at 22) who did 4 tours in Iraq...he's fighting for all our rights to ride bikes whenever we want and that makes him more of a man than most...give him a break. Just because he asked a question about a certain mod...and it's not a sticker that you put on your plate, it's a war veteran plate that he EARNED by fighting for our country and he was obviously wounded if he has the purple heart on there...am I correct in saying this StreetEthic?
It makes no sense to me how demon is hating on his want to put the retractable plate on his bike but supplies about 4 links to answer his question...why?
Do any of us go the speed limit on our bikes? Probably not...otherwise ride a scooter. Stop hating...especially guys that went to war for our FREEDOM!!!
What the **** is wrong with you people!!!

I'd like to chime in to see what I can make of this
Firstly...........
License plate flippers are purpose-built devices to knowingly and purposely hide your license plate.........mainly hiding the plate from police.....their intended purpose. This is illegal. The reason why this is a touchy subject on this forum is because most of us believe that riding safe and obeying traffic laws (within justifiable reason anyway) to be a good thing. With that being said, most of us believe that stunting, excessive speeding, reckless driving, etc. on pubic roads is inappropriate and will not be tolerated.
And with that being said, don't take it personally. If you want it because you want something on your bike to show off at bike shows or to friends, that's fine, and we all respect that. BUT this is a device that only serves only one purpose, and that is to hide your plates. And even if you do want it for show, it brings up another question............and that is "why would someone want something like this and not use it?"........and that goes back to doing wheelies, stunting, speeding, etc. on the streets and using it to hinder the police from getting your plate number.
So be honest with yourself. If you want one so you can get away with doing wheelies, speeding, etc. etc. on the streets.........then odds are you aren't going to get very many positive responses on this forum.
So this is where we are coming from, so give us a little bit of a break as well. I've lost a few friends in motorcycle accidents that could have been avoided if they weren't doing stupid s**t on the street, and this license plate flipper device promotes doing just that.

"The Time has Come" thread wasn't about buying a device that flips a license plate strictly to hide your plate so the police can't get the tag numbers.
And yes, he did serve in Iraq, and yes he DID earn that plate, and we all thank him tremendously for his service, but don't think for one second that just because someone earned a purple heart, they can go out to flaunt it around to use as a scapegoat to get out of traffic citations. I have family and friends who also have purple hearts that they earned with their lives, and it's a disgusting thought that someone would even think about using them in such a way.
And not to mention.......why was serving in Iraq even brought up in this thread to being with?

I never said that it was ok to use the plate to run from the police or do illegal things on public streets. I also have lost people in bike accidents. I just don't agree with people attacking this dude or judging him when he served our country defending our right to ride our bikes whenever we want. Do we know what his intended use is for the device? If the device is illegal, why is it available to purchase?
Iraq came up because he said he didn't need to run from the cops because his plate with the purple heart on it would probably get him out of any tickets...I don't believe he ever said "I'm going to use my purple heart to get out of tickets," he said "they probably won't give me one" at least that's how I took it.
I'm not trying to hate on anyone in this forum, I'm just trying to defend what I thought was an "attack" on this dude for asking a question. I personally wouldn't put one on my bike, because in CT if you get caught with one it's bad news. But who are we to judge anyone else if they want to? Thats what makes the US of A so great, if he wants to, he can.

it's his attitude that o.. i can't get in trouble because i went to iraq and now i have a purple heart, it's great that he went and fought but dont come back and act like u can do wahtever u want because of that, and no one puts a retractable licence plate on there bike other then to act cool around friends.. or to flip it and take off.. which both are stupid
