i just recently laid my bike down and i was wondering who else has had road rash.
i was late for work so i didnt go back in side to grab all my gloves and jacket ( first time i had ever riden with out full gear). my first trip passes with out incident. However, after work this guy yelled out " do a whellie", to which my response was "i still owe ten grand and im not doing anything like that now". well, i took the turn out of the parking lot and rolled the throttle back, hard. After a second my back tire slipped out from underneath men and i was bucked of like a rag doll. after rolling a couple of times i looked up, while lying on my back, and  i saw my bike sliding to on coming traffic.I got back up and was so pissed that i threw my broken mirror across the street and walked my bike to the intersection. It started up after a couple tries and i was off to my apt bandage my wounds.  well needless to say that was the last time i road with out full gear and I always let my tires warm up before i try a hard accelleration. i took these pics the next day.
post your "learning expierences" up

someone told me once that gloves are one of the most important pieces of safety gear after your helmet...

i went home and downed some tequilla to easy my suffering. I had my roommate ( who is one sadistic mother f----er and enjoyed seeing me in agony) clean the payment from my skin. i went to the doctore the next day and got a antimicrobial cream, tetnis shot ( if thats how you spell it), and a antibiotic shot. I am healed alread seeing how this happend two months ago. I would reccomend anyone who is not seriously injured ( i.e. just road rash) to pass on the emergency room and go to doctors office the NEXT DAY. The wait is TOO long and your copayment on insurance is probably more for the hospital versuse a private practice. Not only that but emergency room doctors have more to worry about than some road rash victum, i.e. gun shot victum, drug overdoes, serious car crash victums..ect. This wont allow them to give you best possible treatment options available. This can all be avioded if you WEAR YOUR GEAR!

the scars are barely noticable on my hand and arm. My knee however has a really obvios scar. it still has not completely healed and it has been 2 months. the skin is so sensitive that i opened the wound back up again when i got on my bike and rubbed my knee on the fairing.

yup, that's the knee for ya.. same with elbows, it takes alot of time to heal them and if you dont - usually it will leave a scar..

I have read somewhere that if you have a spill at 70mph and slide with your hands down (with no gloves on) that you will burn away skin and bone at a rate of an inch per second, not sure how true that is but it makes you think. As a bare minimum I always where my helmet (in the UK it is law that you do!) gloves and jacket, and if I am going for a proper burn I will put my leather bottoms on and boots.
I bet road rash sucks, did you have to peal the bed sheets from you open wounds every morning ?

Isn't this the second crash in a week from cold tires?  Heal up soon, keep that wound clean.

I would like to inform everyone that "hattrick" was my boyfriend of two years and passed away on September 13, 2007 in a tragic bike accident at 22 yrs. old. He was on his way home from work at 2p.m. and a 79-year-old man pulled out of the post office in a tahoe without seeing Aaron. The man hit him with the front left of the Tahoe and he was run over. Aaron was driving the speed limit, wearing his helmet, gloves, and bike jacket. He was doing everything right, he just wasn't seen, as I know many bikers aren't. So please, I know it's a thrill to be on your bikes, but please please be careful of other drivers. Aaron was always careful and would always try and make eye contact with other drivers on the road, at stop signs, etc... but this time it just didn't work. So please please have fun out there and be careful at the same time.

Just blown me away, don't know wot to say really, angry & sad at the same time. I know you can't prevent accidents, but at least we can be prepared for them. Hope he's found peace.

Man that's so sad. My first wreck was the one day I went without gear (seems to be karma). Went home on lunch break because it stopped rainging and was a nice day outside. One my way back to work I just came through an intersection and a Jeep Cherokee pulled out in front of me. I start to pass because it was too close to brake and then she saw me and cut back over to clear up the lane (expecting me to stay in my lane and pass her) but I was already in the other lane and she only ended up cutting back in front of me. Needless to say I was hopeless. I got on the brakes as hard as I could bc I knew I was going to hit. I think the closer I got the harder I pulled because I endo-ed a foot behind the rear bumper. I went head first into the back corner and then knee first into the pavement. The bike flipped and was hardly damaged. My knee took a hard hit and hurt for weeks afterwards. Leg, kneee, and arms were all thrashed. Luckily I had gloves and a helmet on (the 2 I NEVER go without). Now I never ride in anything but jeans and a jacket with gloves and a helmet. It only takes once you guys...

So very sorry about your loss.  It hurts to hear when a fellow rider goes down, but it hurts even more when they are one of our own.  Please share our condolences with his family and friends.
