Hi Guys,

Just got my first bike (CBR F2 1991) and it has a little rust on the forks... Any advice on what the best way to cover it up is?  What products to use etc...

Thanks in advance!

The problem is that their chrome, even though it don't look like it, chrome is very porous (absorbs moisture), so anything that you do to remove the rust, is going to strip it back, making it more vulnerable to more rust as it exposes the metal beneath it.. However, you have to keep the rust away from the part of the fork leg that moves past the fork seal, as it can wear the seals quickly. Wot I do, I use a rust convertor (special type, not PAINT convertor), dab it on with cotton bud, wait overnight, and if the rust build up ain't to bad, polish it with auto polish. extreme cases you can use a really fine (& I mean really fine) sandpaper, you have to be extremly carefull not to scour the fork chrome.but like I said before, it just sets you up for more rust. If you keep an eye on it, you can keep it to a minimum.
If its really bad, you can have them polished & replated. Wish they would get around to using stainless steele.
