Hi,
I recently upgraded to an 02 600f4i and have noticed that there is a slight vibration/rattle when in neutral that is eliminated by pulling in the clutch lever. I've searched around and it sounds like my clutch basket is bad? It appears to be a pretty solid piece, how exactly does it go bad? There's a few things on the bike I need to repair including the fork seal but I would rather wait til the semester is over. Is there any harm in riding the bike with the bad basket?

The basket is #2 correct?

I dont think its your basket. The only way I can think of right now for a basket to go bad would if one of the "ears" were to break off and you would def know if that happened. I would take the clutch cover off and inspect around for any damage/loose parts. Is it just a ratteling or are there problems with shifiting /using the clutch?

No problems with shifting. It's a very subtle vibration, you can feel it get slightly smoother when you pull in the lever. The noise is very slight.

It is probably the SV's need to be synchronized.  It is like synchronizing carburetors.  If the throttle bodies are not in sync, the clutches will rattle.  All my carb bikes did that when the carbs were out of sync.

I think it's normal.  I've only got 2 hours on my bike but I hear the same thing.

I'm sure it's the same thing that I noticed in my Corvette's.

Basically, when you have the tranny in neutral with the clutch still engaged, the clutch is not disengaged so it's still spinning some with the motor.  As soon as you pull your clutch lever to disengage, it should stop because they are no longer in contact.

Yea i have an 01 F4i and i have the same thing. It only happens when its just idleing in neutral, as soon as i  pull the clutch in it goes away. You can feel it in the bars
