I put in an internet quote request for a G35 and here's the verbatim response.
Keep in mind I asked for absolutely nothing special .. just clicked (chose option on website) for colors and clicked "submit for quote request".
quote:
Sorry but we do not have the car you are looking for and have been unable to find a close match in the area. Good luck with your search. Jeff
No mention of alternative options or how long to special order or nothing.
Guess it blows my theory that car salesman will use any trick in the book to sell you a car straight out the water. bahahaha
Must've just broken up with his g/f or something. "Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit amphetamines"

Actually, my dad got the same shit with a certain Infinity dealer in Grand Rapids, MI except my dad actually came in, ordered the car, and was given a time frame for delivery. My dad calls after the delivery date had come and gone. Salesman didn't even remember his name or the car he ordered.
My dad went to a large dealer in Chicago, ordered his car, and got it in a week.
2 weeks later the dealer in Grand Rapids calls saying they have his car. He told them what they could do with it.

being a finance manager for a car dealer and a prior doing the "internet car sales: for the dealership i car say that interent sales SUCKS in the car business....you email back person after person with your best prices after working the best deal you can do, only to never hear a word back from them. the close ratio is like 1 out of 150 at best. its really bad. and no way to differentiate the real people from the dreamers/teenagers/credit challenged. that being said.......he did a shitty job regardless of the situation.

I will never buy a brand new car again, i sold cars after high school for 6mo. I was great at it, not to mention i was selling Chevy Trucks in Oklahoma. Which is like stepping on shit in a toilet, really easy. But after seeing how "upsidedown" people get and cant get out and just carry over thier loan into another car i will never do it again.
No point in buying a brand new car, when said car is 30k and you can get one with 10k miles on it for 20k.

I understand that Hayden and appreciate the insight. If you have any other special tricks/tips on getting the best deal please let me know. I've read every buying tip stuff I can get my hands on and they all still claim starting the process via internet will still usually get you the best deal. I thought it's supposed to be a buyer's market, this guy acts as if he doesn't need any more sales.
All that said, this guy is really a true PRO!!! hahaha check this out. I sent him a reply, not because I wanted to buy there but because I wanted his employer to know what a fantastic job of selling he's doing (I blind emailed the General Manager) .. I certainly would want to know if one of my employees was putting forth this kind of effort. Here's my reply and his reply back (keep in mind I had initially told him that my brother had already made an internet purchase there last month .. which he can easily look up by my last name to verify)
quote:
You giving up on me that quickly?!?!
What's so unusual about it? I thought I chose pretty standard options. If I know what's making it difficult to find maybe I can change one of the options.
Also, does it have to be from the area or can you widen the search? Can you special order? I never mentioned that it has to be from "the area".
Please let me know.
Thank You

Yeah, I can see internet sales being hard...it's just too easy for the shopper to sit at home and get quotes and not have a salesman trying his a$$ off to get you in his office and approved for a loan. Last year I was sending emails to about 6 local Nissan dealerships looking for a Frontier. Most of them blew me off, and one kept trying to sell me a Mitsubisi Raider after multiple time of me saying "NO". But one dealer actually tried pretty hard to find me a truck and get me a good deal. And then after a couple weeks of correspondence I changed my mind and went bought used. I did feel bad since the lady tried pretty hard and was really good about getting back with me. But at the same time I hate salesmen. Why can't we all just pay the same price for a vehicle?

^^Oh, good point bass, I forgot to mention I got the preapproved loan online at the same time as asking for the quote and gave him the reference # to show I was serious and not tire kicking.

Don't make things more difficult Tahoe
.. if you only knew how long it took me to finally narrow it down to the G35 sport and the Acura Type-S.
Basically at this point it's a toss up but the major
Pro's for the G are the current finance offers they have and that you get more engine for the buck and it's one of the few vehicles on the market actually still assembled in Japan
Pro's for the Type-S are you get more options standard in the base price (Homelink, bluetooth, blah blah blah)
but I keep leaning back and forth between the two and waiting to see which dealer gives me the best deal.
I do have to admit though that the TL has a lot more potential to look mean with after market stuff .. but even that's making the decision difficult cuz the G35 has a much better looking ass and the TL has much better looking tits.

TL's look good, but are wrong wheel drive. It may not matter to you if you don't do any performance driving, but it would bother me. I like AWD over anything else. Feels much more planted to the road and here in Michigan winters you can't be without it. If you get a TL, get the one with the quad exhaust and big brakes. Is it a type S?

Yeah, that bigger brakes and all is the Type-S. You're correct about the rear wheel vs. front wheel and I have that on the long list of Pros/Cons of each but I just listed the major pros/cons because the rest; they keep negating one another .. which is why I said in the end it's a toss up. And also why I'm letting the dealers fight it out with the numbers to make my decision for me .. I really don't think you can go wrong with either one. At this particular point and time in the cosmos I'm back to leaning towards the G35
which sucks because they are less willing to negotiate compared to Acura.
The AWD would be nice but neither offer it with sports pkg .. it's one or the other but not both. No biggie for me though, here in GA it's not really necessary.

Either way, Kewl, you will be a sexy bastard when you get your new car. It will probably smell like punany from the local cowboy bar you like to go to. Does your new car come standard with Trojans?

Yah Spirit, that's what I meant by the tittas and ass comment. Both those photos are taken from the best angles of each ... flip either of'em and it's not quite as nice. The G35 from the front just doesn't impress me as much as the TL and vice versa (TL has the pancake ass thing going). but the 3.5 V6 306hp helps lean towards the G anyway. One other factor that I forgot about is that the TL is due for a redesign next year and the G was just redesigned last year so I would have an extra 4 years of design value with the G. decisions decisions.

cheaper, easily made way faster...and take it to places the other rice can't...and still look classy!
you can spend more bling on them other cars...but in the end, what we own stays here...so go for what makes the spirit happy...the spec b....

I'm a slow negotiator but eventually it all works out.
Thanks for the replies/help Hayden, Tahoe, et. al.
In the end, the Rear wheel drive and made in Japan could not be overlooked
sport package, navi, tech package

Voodoo, It's getting harder to be a pimp out here these days. No, that fool has a nicer car so if anything I should be driving his.
Foxy, it's funny you brought up the Audi, back before I narrowed my list of choices to just 2 (the TL and G) I had a top 10 list which I narrowed down to 4 and the other 2 where the BMW 545 and the Audi (not the A4 but the S4) and while I don't think you can really go wrong with any of those 5 cars .. I initially HAD to go with the G for several reasons.
After test driving all of the above the G was the most responsive and most fun to drive. The 545 had the best looks but it stopped there (slower, more expensive, etc..) ... both the Audi's I test drove where nice but not nearly as responsive and their depreciation is much more than the G. Couldn't believe the S4 with its 4.2L 340HP V8 actually gets better gas mileage than the G. The gas on the G is about the only negative. Like I said though, all 5 are still nice cars.
They've added so much crap to this G that I'm still having a helluva time trying to figure it all out and I'm a techie! Between the ipod, homelink, video connections, bluetooth, voice navigation controls, paddle shifters, programmable everything and the kitchen sink .. you need an engineering degree to set everything up the way you want it ... but it's fun so don't cry too much for me
Did your roomie ever consider the G37?
or the G35 coupe?

^^ He did, but then I let him watch an episode of TopGear when they tested the RS4..........................that did it right there. The RS4 in INSANE (and insanely priced as well). The new S4 should have some more umph for the newer models coming out..............but you know the RS4 engine is one of the best engines ever created when they are putting it in the R8.
