Ummmm the smell of fiber-glass. If you are crazy enough to attempt this make sure you pick up some BONDO_GLASS. Its a filler that's easy to sand, Also if you don't have a dremel get one. Here are more pictures, these are after I put on a coat of Bondo glass and sanded.

Another coat of Bondo glass and I should (SHOULD) be ready for the fine tuning and then the mounts.

looking good so far!!!

Almost finish. After a couple of layers of Bondo glass and sanding I put on the grey primer and it looks pretty good. It fits on the bike nice after some fine tuning with the sanding. All that's left to do are the mounts, wet sanding, primer and hopefully just painting. Not sure what color to paint it though, I was thinking either black or Titanium?

Holy crap dude, that looks great. It looks like a real pro job. You got to paint it black though. A body shop should be able to help you match the paint, although at this point I'm gonna guess that you might be able to figure that one out too.

Thanks, I don't like to paint so I am thinking of taking it to a pro, like Macco or something. I am thinking black also. I was thinking about doing it myself, it cant be that hard. If anyone has experience with painting and has some tips let me know.

That turned out awesome. Great work, it looks like it fits really good. Its probably going to be kind of expensive to paint it, but it really all depends on where you take it. I'd say if you did all of that work yourself, I'd try to paint it too. If you mess up the paint you can always sand it down and take it to a professional.

if you want an exact match you can buy from Honda....just get the color off your stock seat

Anyone wishing to try this here's a short cut. Remove your seat and make the hump out of styro-foam to your desired shape, put that on top of your seat and cover it in tin-foil and masking tape. Start fiber-glassing. I did one with the extra fiberglass I had left over and I t came out nice. All thats left to do is the filler (bondo-glass) sanding etc....It was alot faster doing it this way then doing the whole thing out of styro-foam! and the best thing is that it fits perfect like your seat does.....Wish I thought of this before!

haha arkas you read my mind!! I've got a spare seat coming to me right now so that I can try this with some c/f if I can get a hold of some otherwise I'm sticking with glass... the only problem I'm going to have is paint... as I'm sure you've heard the factory yellow ain't cheap... thinkin about painting it flat black.

The mounts are defintaly the hardest thing so far. What I had in mind was a total disaster! That dam spring loaded hinge for the seat on a 954 is a pain in the ass, every-time I come up with something different that spring-hinge would off set everything. But I finally manage to come up with an idea that worked, it might not look the best but who cares your not going to see the under side anyways. I had to crazy glue rubber wedges in order to keep it stable and centered, now its pretty secure. I will post a picture of the under side once I have it fine tuned. Anyone attempting this?

soon as my seat gets here (next week maybe) I'll go to town. gotta get home to work on a design for the foam and then bring it back up here to lansing to do the lay up.

Awesome bro, I just put on my last filler coat of bondo, I had some small indentations that needed filling. Then its the primer and hopefully by this weekend paint. Here's the first coat of black primer, a little hard to see.

Here's a picture showing how I mounted it.
The Red circles to the left are flat metal that was bent to slip under a part of the fairing, the red circle to the right is a piece of threaded rod that is secured by bondo-glass and has a spring on it so when the key is turned it pops out of the lock. The yellow circles are small pieces of rubber that's crazy glued in place to keep it from moving. I had to do some trimming for that perfect fit. Now the cowl fits securely and doesn't move at all. I still need to clean up the Bondo-glass thats holding all the mounts in place but that's no biggy. Everything was hand made and was a pain in the ass, especially the front mounts.

Looks awesome. You really did a good job. I'm probably going to do this, but I'm going to get an extra seat off ebay or something and attach the cowl to the stock seat with the foam and everything removed. I can't wait to see it on the bike all finished.
