What a day, went to get two new pilot power tires installed and an hour and a half later I get a phone call.

The guys at the service dept dropped my bike right after they got the tires put on, luckly it was on the ground when it dropped and not up off the ground!!!!! The bikes right side was scratched to shit, broke the mirror, broke the throttle, scraped the brake leaver, scuffed my $500 slip on and put two small scuffs on my swing arm. WTF!
I was so pissed! The guy in charge of the dept was pretty cool about it though. They are going to replace all the damaged parts except for the swing arm that barely is noticeable, they are going to give me $500 credit for the slip on and free installation for the tires!
Shitty thing is that its suppose to be super nice today and tomorrow I am suppose to go back to work!!! Thanks a lot F#*kers for ruining my day and pissing me off!

that really sucks but, like melantus said, it's all good in the end. you don't have to pay the $150 or whatever they charge to change the tires. and they replace your used (and possibly slightly damaged from road debris) parts with brand new oem stuff. and the pipe is cool too. you get to replace your used, partially burnt out pipe with a brand new one. and i really like the sounds of them giving you credit instead of replacing it. you can re-buy the pipe you had or choose whatever brand you want. so you miss a day or two of riding but you gain a bike in better shape than it went in. i'd let them drop my bike if i could get that deal!

I think they raced your bike a bit There's too much damage for a simple drop.. Don't be so naive

Arkas, Hmmmm... After think'n about it... did they put any mi. on it ??? somebody there, KNOWS the truth, and I'm betting the owner, w/ zillions invested in his biz, has an intrest in getting to the bottom of it. This **** can destroy the integrety of a dealership, if HE dosen't satisfy you. maybe the mention of have'n YOUR own insurance claim adjuster look at it. These guys (good one) are a forensic monster, of damage.
At first thought, the remedy sounds reasonable... but what are ya getting? He's make'n you buy the can from him, so what are you get'n... .50 on the dollar? replacement parts, tell'm you want the old parts too.Scratched swing arm?...FIXXED SWINGARM. my neck of the woods, admittedly off season ,2 wheels, my tires,w/ balance,22$ each...on the bike!!!!!!!!!this guy really isn't kick'n much... Maybe just BS. over his tracks. Especialy, if it was not, just tipped over.
I'm really into grace, but I'm really into descerning the truth, first. Hmmmm... Clean and free, only smoke'n harleys!!!!!!!!!!Ripp'n

does sound like alot of damage for a simple drop, but who knows. as long as they are fixing it all. you should tell them to powdercoat your swingarm since it is more noticable than when you dropped your bike off. shit, give me the address and ill knock my bike over myself!

You crazy man Without seeing the damage I'd say his description is reasonable for just a drop. The force of a bike going over is huge. The pivot is the ground so a throttle that's say 2 1/2 feet up could see 1000# of force when it hits.

Bottom line is if you're happy with their offer then more power to ya. Me? No way ... that isn't adequate compensation in my book. You bring it in to them in a certain condition it should leave there in better condiditon (you are paying them to do work).

That's why I do ALL my own maintenance. You see, I know the mechanic and he's pretty good with a wrench. Takes care of my bike like it's his own. And he does it all for FREE

I'm kind of with everyone else and I don't think its enough. They should fix everything and give you the tires for free and installed free and $500 cash for the slip-on and fix eveything including the swingarm and then give you all of the old parts too, their yours anyway. The slip-on is what gets me. Did you pay for the pipe with credit??? Then why should you get credit for it? If I pay cash for something and it gets messed up or broken I want my CASH back, just my .02 But if your happy with what they are doing just take it and don't go back. But I would tell them that you want $500 cash for the can and not credit that way you can go someplace else like his compitition and give them his money. But at least you are getting your bike fixed for free, I tipped my bike over last week and I have to pay to get it fixed LOL so I guess it could have been worse. BTW if you didn't check the mileage before you dropped it off deffinately do it next time, there is absolutely no reason for them to be riding your bike. Good luck

Guys I will be honest with you. I think I am getting a pretty good deal. The scuff on the exhaust is about a 1/2 inch long and its on the strap on the end of the pipe, I am sure I can even buff it out. As for the swing arm if I told you where it was it would be the only way you would find it, again very small maybe 1/4 to 1/2 inch long. The fairing has already been replaced and now has no chips from road debris. New mirror and new throttle. Plus I get free tire insulation and $500 bucks so I am going to get a PCIII USB, K&N cleaning kit and something hot for the misses.
Overall I think I am doing pretty good. I have new parts , free tire installation and a free PC3.
Cant wait to go pick it up tomorrow. I am going to take it for a test drive first thing and if its not to my satisfaction they will be seeing me again! After I get everything I want I am going to the local forum in my area and trashing their service dept! LOL

Don't sweat the small stuff, they dropped it, they are going to make it reasonably right, move on. What I found out it is usually the guys that don't have two nickels to rub together argue and fight over the least amount of money. Focus on the big stuff, the small stuff usually goes away.

arkas i think you have the right attitude. i work at a car dealership and have heard horror stories about other servie depts. the good thing is that they first didn't try to say "that's what it was like when you dropped it off here", it sounds like they're being reasonable and trying to make it right by you. i'm sure the first offer wasn't the best if you want to bump them a little, but it seems to me that your coming out ok.

ok mr. bling bling...nothing wrong with being financially challenged...builds character...so don't bash on guys who "don't have 2 nickels to rub together" because they aren't as fortunate and need to worry about where the next meal comes from, etc...

now if it's someone who wipes his arse with hundreds and then frets about this...that's something to talk about.

I dropped my bike in my parking space right after a ride. When I dropped it the engine was still running but by the time it hit the ground the engine was off. I guess there is some kind of sensor that cut the engine off. I was on the bike when it went over too so I was able to cushion it with my body. I didn't do any real damage because of this. only a scratched stator cover on my left side.

Interesting topic. I have a friend in a hell of a situation:

She got a new job at a dealership. Service dept. agrees to fix bike, labor free (no documentation, of course).
Mechanic is done w/ bike (Bone Stock '04 CBR1000RR) and parks it 1/2 in and 1/2 out of garage (front end sticking out of bay door)
Delivery driver backs over it and crushes it.
Shop informs customer/employee
When she goes to see bike, bike isn't there. They say they want an independet 2nd opinion for the sake of her insurance company.

On one hand it sounds like they tried doing the right thing, then changed their mind.
She has no written proof that the bike was ever in the service bay and has the impression that they're going to deny everything
I told her not to sweat it, but if she doesn 't get good solid answers today then report the incident to insurance company and to report the bike stolen.

Any opinions?
