I must confess I was pulled into sportbikes ENTIRELY by my husband. I had never spent any time around them or anyone who did, so I thought they were just crazy people who couldn't afford Harley's.  LOL and then Will brought his 1st bike home and cranked it up. I fell in love!  I guess really what I'm wondering here is do lots of people ride with their SO's???

We mostly take turns... One of us is watching the kids, while the other is out with our freinds... Unless we're on a trip,  or we have a sitter on the weekends...

I've got it pretty nice since the kids are in school fulltime now. I go play all day on my bike, while he's at work!!!

I can't even get my wife on the back of mine. She says she is too heavy. Yes she is a little overweight, but I want her to enjoy the same things I do. I wanna get her a bike of her own someday, but I got to get her comfortable on one. It would be nice to take a long ride on the twisties with her. She stays home with the kids and I feel guilty sometimes.

I'd be more worried that ya told the the "world" that Ur wifes a little over weight, than posting in the wrong thread!!!  dosn't matter if she/we R, 5 or 500lbs over weight, the minute someone mentions my weight I gain 5 pounds (just trying to give ya some girlly insight there)

But seriously ya can't make her want to ride, its a bummer, but U shouln't feel guilty... as long as she has a chance to get out and do her thing... and hopefully there's still time for the 2 of U!!!

Well its a damn good thing that my wife doesn't read these posts and thats the ONLY reason I decided to quote her. Lol.
I wish she had her own thing though. She really doesn't have a "hobby" I have like four...lol. Oh well someday I will get her on the back. Other than that I envy all those who have others to ride with.

or scrapbooking!   LOL hahahha - later today I'm getting some of my first lessons on my husband's bike. It's a beautiful day here in Austin and I'm about to take full advantage of it!

As for the wife picking up a hobby, you might suggest a few things but she will find it on her own. Keep asking her to go for a ride with you though - if nothing else it lets her know that you want to spend time with her!

I ride with my husband on the back of his or on my own we both have bikes but I'm just learning to ride so I want him with me if I'm out. I'm very under weight by about 20-25 pounds so when I'm on my husbands bike he has to make sure I'm still there sometimes and I haven't blown off somewhere down the road because I don't hang on to him I hold on to the bar at the back it's more comfortable. I know I drive to slow for my husbands bike but he has to be patient with me while I learn my bike does good on slow speeds his doesn't. I have a CBR 125 and he has a GS500 so when I'm on the road he rides behind me to be my blocker while I learn. He is such a nice husband.

I fell in love with riding because of my husband. He took me for a few rides and then I decided I wanted my own. I hate being the passenger now.

My fiance does not ride. I've got to finish school first, but I'm going to buy her a bike and gear when I'm done so she can ride with me. She doesn't come out with me because she doesn't have gear and I don't like the idea of having someone else on my bike.

My boyfriend (Jaynd) introduced me to the love of riding. I have always been interested in it, just never had the outlet for my craving! Now that I bought my own I can fully enjoy this addiction haha!

you know, my family (females) all have this, "i don't like not being in control" attitude.  This seriously hampers the ability to be a passenger.  Yeah, i have my own bike.  My sister's husband loves motorcycles but she is not only LARGE but she doesn't drink because she doesn't like not having control.
Maybe, you should take your wife on several very short, SLOW, not real twisty rides first.  So she can decide for herself that she likes the idea of the bike before you scare the crap out of her.
My brother almost turned me off of motorcycles when i was a teenager because he liked hotdogging and going fast.  I am sure you wouldn't do that with your wife but it is really intimidating to get on a bike for the first dozen or so times.
Keep inviting her man.  But do so for short easy trips to maybe the next town or so.  And even though the interstate gives you speed, Try to take the long road and slow down for her.
Good luck man

I too was pulled into the sport by my husband.  He was in charge of planning our honeymoon, and we ended up in Monterey to see the World Superbike Races.  I was really nervous about going, I figured I'd be bored and he'd be hanging out with his friends.  But the instant we walked on to the track and I got a whiff of racing fuel, I was hooked.  My husband has been riding for almost 20 years, but I didn't get my own ride until this week, a 2000 CBR600.  I'm a little nervous about getting to know the bike, but it means I get to ride with my husband and friends, so that makes it all worth it!

I have to say, I was absolutely positively against a street motorcycle of any kind because for three years because I worked as an autopsy assistant at our local coroner's office and saw many motorcycle accidents. I was extremely turned off from them even though I grew up on dirt bikes, lived for sports and adrenaline pumping action...Anyways, I began dating a wonderful man about 6 months now and he is an avid street biker (owns CBR 1000 & RC51). So I gradually got the guts to ride on the back...I LOVED RIDING!! I got back into riding dirt bikes around the house and stuff, asked him tons of questions and then bought a cbr 600...I know a lot of bike for a starter, but I just had to. Now I despise riding on the back I'm carving turns and riding with my other half everywhere. If it wasn't for him I wouldn't have found my new passion and my "other love" lol. I love riding with my significant other and whether it is on the back or side by side it's great.

hahaha  my husbands bike is slower than mine(f4i) and i just take off on my 600rr and leave him in my dust.  But he loves it though bragging to his friends about how crazy his wife rides.

A little late to the thread, but I just joined..

My story's a little of both.  I fell in love with motorcycles when I was 15 riding on the back with guy friends. I asked my dad for a bike instead of a car at 16 and he wouldn't have it.  I finally got my license in my early 20s, but didn't have the money for a bike.  At 25 I started dating a guy that rode a VFR at time (he now has a 929 and a 1000rr).  He took me on one long ride and when we got back told me the next time I wanted to go it had to be on my own bike.  I was proud owner of an old Shadow a week later.  My brother rides a YZF and let me take it out after I'd been riding the Shadow a few years and I was in love.  I went shopping and brought home and F4i.  There's nothing better!  The VFR guy and I broke up a few years ago, but the guy I'm dating now rides a Katana.  I tend to get out more when it's something I can do with my SO.

Welcome!

Both my husband and I are stubborn. We each ride our own. I can count on one hand how times I have passengered with him and him with me. Usually happens when we are dropping off/picking up one of the STs at the shop. The only bikes I currently do major work because of warranties.

I was into riding about 7-8 years ago but didn't have a bike and then got out of it, fell back into it with a job and 2 weeks after I left that job, bought myself a bike. Me and my boyfriend have been dating for a while and he didn't want me to get a bike. I've now had mine for two years and he bought his about 9 months ago...   Now I run a motorcycle shop, and that's all we both do.

I actually got into riding because of my parents.  They both have been riding sport bikes for 10 yrs at the time.  I had just gotten divorced and wanted to start enjoying life.  Met my husband riding and ever since we have both had a few bikes everything from an old Honda to a Kawasaki zx14 each.  Went to the HD for a short time and just bought 2 CBR's mine is a 600 and his is a 1000.  My husband was so down when we had the harleys that I knew we had to get back to sport bikes.  I did miss the power of a sport bike.  It was very hard to pass a car on a harley.  It's so much fun to have a spouse that rides with me.
