When it comes to exhausts i know it is better to go with the full system but they are more expensive. Are there really any substantial gains from a slip on or is it better to just keep saving up and get a full system? Im currently looking at the Arata exhausts.

depends on what you'll be using the bike for.
f/s saves weight and gives the bike more power, but you'll never reap the benefits of it unless you're on the track or riding hardcore canyon as the gains are all up top in the high mid and high rpm range. downside is that it leaves your wallet light and your lowend will suffer...and you'll feel the difference.
so...for the street and stuff, i'd go with a slip on...tiny power increase but better than stock...and doesn't leave your bottom end sloppy.

+1 on that. i have a slip on as well. of course i would love to reap the benefits of having a full set up...but realistically....i will never push it to use its full potential in any circumstance. on top of that...i'm content with how hard my bike pushes. now...if your a real performance/speed junkie (more so then the usual on this forum)...then i would say go spring for the full system...but i'd rather save the extra $$$. just my .02

For me it was a matter of price. I wanted the sound and looks of a new exhaust. My bike goes fast enough for me so the added performance of a full system just wasn't worth the extra money.
