Painted the tail section tonight, Damn Tahitian blue is 2 coats metallic blue, 2 coats candy, and 3 coats clear... a couple runs in the clear to wetsand and buff, but overall came out good, Home made paint booth.

Very nice, Sharkey! I had a professional that couldn't get the Tahitian Blue right...now I have an upper fairing that doesn't match the rest of my bike. I notice that is a split seat, but the Tahitian Blue was from the '06 ('naner). Did you do the conversion?

Are you asking because of the way it looks? No it was sprayed with a HVLP gun, Uerethane PPG Paints

I can see why, hard color to paint... Too much base and it turns out too dark, too much candy and it looks too purple and not enough metallic shows through..
I am happy with the results, I have painted about 15 cars in my days, but I don't consider myself a professional by any stretch. I am good with the sand paper and compound though to fix mistakes.

I had a guy from T.O. paint mine. He was a real stonner, but he came highly recomended. He did a great job, but he took forever. He refused to even consider colour right, and mixed the paint himself. Excentric and weird dude, but the results speak for themselves.

I didn't use colorrite....
I have used a similar place for a rattlecan for my jeep tailgate called Paintscratch. They sent me one can of base and Duplicolor professional clear. The results were excellent.
I would have used them again but they don't match Motorcycle paint.
voodoo.....
He used too much candy.... or tried to do a 3 stage paint job with 2 stages.
I brought the tail to the bike this morning, it is an EXACT match... only looks a little shinier. After I wetsend and buff imperfections it will knock the shine down a little and be perfect.
My new seats come Monday and my conversion will be complete..
I am going to cut my own decals, I am going with 600 in black F4 in metallic silver and i in black on the tail section...
I think it will mix it up a little and look factory at the same time.

Man, just when I thought I couldn't love this bike more...
Why didn't they make them in blue with the split seat..

My take on that question, because by the time that blue came about, the RR had stepped in to take over the sporty side of things and the F4i got pushed to be a more comfertable platform....hence the seat.

Thats a pretty awesome match. In the next couple months im going to redo my bike with some custom paint. I've done a bit of refinish work and have now become and expert sander and going to try my hand at some pearl painting next. its going to be stock f4i graphics (painted wings now though instead of vinyl crap) with Spicy Orange Mica as the top half and Midnight Blue Mica as the bottom fairing color. It will then be coated with gold pearl and hopefully that'll make it POP. Hopefully I don't ruin it by rushing the pearl but i guess it only comes with experimentation. Been using PPG shopline bases (cheap enough and they look alright, don't really want to spent the 3x more for Global or DBC) and SPI clear (that stuff lays like glass)
