When i first fire up my bike it seems to sputter a little bit and idle slightly lower than it used to. It clears up after a quick minute or if I give it some gas and it rides and runs great otherwise.
Is there anything i could check? It's doesn't seem to be a problem, but it's only been doing it for a few days so i thought it was strange. I bought the bike in May with 2800 miles and it has 6800 now. Thoughts?

I don't mean to jinx it, but my battery died shortly after my bike did the low idle thing (1100 rpm cold, not 1500 which was normal). I don't remember the sputtering but maybe that happened too. My battery only lasted 6500 miles so, check that first. Let us know.

There is a idle adjustment. I have never needed to adjust, but it's just forward and above the shifter lever. Black plastic nob.
Hope it's not your battery I just droped in a new one because the other was old and I spent 100 for a westco. not cheap.
Age means more than miles on a battery. infact a bike ridden alot will have a battery that last longer. If it's original I'd call it trash anyways. 5 years is a good run.

I dont know if its the original battery or not. Could be since i bought it 5 years old with only 2800 miles.
Seems strange that a battery would cause this. I would think the stator/generator/ whatever you call it would put out enough juice to make the bike run right.
My bike always ran perfectly smooth immediately after i started it. Maybe this is normal. I guess i'll keep riding and see if it gets worse?

Might be my problem too! :( Mine was idling at about 1100 rpm cold as well and my battery died yesterday. I had to roll start it to get back home, sucked so bad. New battery ordered from motoxoutlet.com for just over $51 shipped. Thats sealed and acid in and charged from the factory by the way.

Need to turn your idle up. Let it reach full operating temperature before turning it up. Need to idle somewhere between 1200-1400 rpms. I personally keep mine set at very close to 1300rpms on the nose. I suspect it might make a bit of difference for you. I don't think my bike would enjoy such a low idle as yours.

Good tip. I may just swap out batteries every third oil change from now on, I'd rather spend a few $$$ than get stuck in the rain or something.
