The stator on my '07 Repsol died after only 2 months, leaving my bike dead up in the Mtns on a Sunday afternoon.

Not sure. But my buddy has an '06 and his stator died too. Mechanically, the 06 is the same as the 07.

tmj1000rr:
The letter you got is the same letter I got, and
it is not a recall. It is an extended warranty on the charging system. That is all. They will not change out your stator if they do not find any problem with it. Read my post at
http://www.cbrforum.com/m_307066/tm.htm.

I just got the papers on my desk at my shop on Tuesday. Its only for a certain V.I.N. range. Ther is also a warrenty extension if your bike is one of the effected.

"The stator on my '07 Repsol died after only 2 months, leaving my bike dead up in the Mtns on a Sunday afternoon. " just out of curiousity why didnt you just push start it in 1st gear?

Take the battery out of your bike and try to push start it.
It would have the same effect as what he went through.

Are you saying that when a stator is bad, it creates a disconnect in the electrical system?

No , what I'm saying is once the Stator stops working your battery is no longer charging.
Your bike will run on battery voltage until that is drained , then you start walking.

Thanks for clarifying that. I another thought: So, does the bike get all its juice directly from the battery even when the stator is operating properly? I've always thought the battery was used only for starting, and then once the engine kicks in, the stator provides all the juice for the bike.

The letter from Honda said "when rode in lower rpm range for extended periods of time. What is considered lower rpm range? I ride mine in about the 5k+ range.

the battery provides the inital start then after that the stator runs the bike but unlike a car the battery is still used to run our electrical (gauges, blinkers etc) . during lower rpms (ive heard 4.5-8k rpms) that stator charges the battery... this is why its not a good idea to let your bike just idle when you think its "charging the battery" in fact you are doing the opposite and running off the battery power.

wow i know more info every day ..well some time i get stuck in traffic and i cant go over 2-3k rpm .. so is that bad for the bike ..?

So,... the stator kicks in between 4.5k-8k. That sounds like a good reason to run these bikes at high RPM, and split lanes at high RPM. Where did you find this information?

Hey Guys:
Does anybody have any documentation on what Honda means when they say "low RPM range" in the letter concerning the stator?
I just got through talking to customer support, and she didn't have any info on that. Honda must have done some tests to determine the problem. Now, why are they so tight lipped about the "low RPM range"? What are they trying to hide?

not sure what Honda means by the lower RPM range ... my 1000rr was putting out a decent 13.9 kva @ 2500 rpm when tested after the stator replacement

So.....stator charges the battery at 2.500 rpm or not ?
Is it necessary to stay between 4.800 and 8.000 to begin stator charge ?
It is not clear for me !
