Tail light discoloring?!?

I've got a 2006 1000rr with about 8k miles.  NO mods. Stock pipe.  The problem is that the taillight is turning YELLOW. The lic. plate has a yellow tint as well.  My assumption is exhaust gasses.  I took it to the local honda dealer,  I asked about possibly being able to cover it under warranty, Um.. NO... "cosmetic" which has a 45 day only coverage.  I told them I bought it in Dec. and not able to do a lot of riding in Dec and Jan. no luck.  I pointed out it was a "safety" issue because it was Yellow and NOT CLEAR still, um... NO! cosmetic issue 45 days.
 
So I guess the question is. Have and of you had this issue and did you "polish" it out "clean" it with something?  I'm becoming more discourged with the thought of buying a $125.00 tail light once a year.  Thanks for your help.         

I used the spray-cleaner-polish stuff. I think is Spectro.
Spray on, let soak in for a min. then wipes clear.
Mothers metal polish works great on the can also.

Just wash your bike dude and scrub your tail lights, its what I do and my tail is not yellow!

I DO have a yellowing tail lamp on my 600RR (plastic is yellowed). It's not a surface yellowing either, this is the actual plastic itself that's discoloring. Common for clear plastics in high-heat situations. Doesn't matter how much it's washed or cleaned. It's permanent discoloration of the chemicals in the plastic due to heat. Mine isn't horrible, but park a new one next to mine and you'll be able to tell. Best bet is to take it to a trusted dealer that will actually listen to you and see if it's under warranty (especially since it's stock). I'm going to ask my dealer the same thing here pretty soon.

Honda (IF it's through a GOOD dealership) is very good about replacing these sorts of things under warranty. My gages were starting to bubble from the hot desert sun. They're offering to replace that for me as well. So it's worth asking.

Thanks for the reply's,  I do wash my bike almost after every ride and when I ride  When I go for a ride it's not down to the local brag and drag DUDE.  I'll go out on the weeend and put 500-1500 miles on.  I have washed it tried Honda brite, Honda Pro cleaner, WD-40, Simple Green and as Blue Fox Stated it's IN the plastic not washable. 
 
I just wanted to see if this was an issue that anyone else has experienced.  I thought that I'd also have it dyno'ed and have the exhaust "sniffed" to see if it was running rich, compounding the problem.    

You can try this if you want-

Easy off oven cleaner will not harm your plastic lens but will probably remove the yellow tinting. REMOVE YOUR LIGHT from the bike before you try this or you might be needing a new paint job on your plastics. Wear rubber gloves - it will burn your skin.

This was a trick I used when I worked in a sign shop. It did wonders removing the yellow haze from old plastic sign faces.

Pop the light out, sand the OUTSIDE with 600-800 grit until it has a nice "soft" look.  Clean off the dust with a rag with alcohol on it or any other residue-free chemical.  Wipe once more with a dry rag then spray with "spray-on" window tint carefully until desired darkness is reached.  Hit that with a few coats of polyeth clear being sure to mind your drying times and TADA, you now have a custom smoked taillight for like 8 bucks and don't have to worry about yellowing.
 
Spray tint is terrible on windows, but it is surprisingly good for tinting lenses.  The lens will look darker from a distance, so don't go overboard with the tint.  You want a nice, even, very light smoke, not a limo-tint lens that nobody can see through.  When done correctly, very little light visibility is lost.  If it's too dark, sand it off and try again.  You should have plenty of tint in one 3oz can to do dozens of small lenses.
