Hi, I keep reading about slip clutches. I am still new to the motorcycle parts scene and am just wondering what it is. And how is it diferent from stock clutches. Thanks

from my understanding what a slipper clutch does is, It allows you to down gear aggressively and your rear tyre will not lock up. Hope this helped...I am getting one fitted to my 06' 1k this following week. As the 06' 1000rr doesn't come with one standard like the GSXR..

Thanks that does help. DO the 600rr's 06 come with them?

No. As of yet, the only bikes that come stock with slipper clutches are the '06 GSXR 600 and I believe 750 and the '06 Yamaha R1 LE. It's great technology that typically uses ball bearings or or another device that will slightly release tension from the clutch plates when downshifting so your rear tire doesn't lock up.

zx10r also has them...
next big thing will be traction control...

that's when i will upgrade to a new bike...or get an older one (like 06) for cheap that won't be getting much love when the newer machines come out.

Take a look on this video. http://alvaromelo.blip.tv/file/32689/ I down shifted too much, then my rear wheel got "locked". If I had using a slip clutch here, this wouldn't had happened.

You dont need one, learn how to rev the RPMs with the clutch in to match crank rotation to rear tire rotation you will save money and be a better rider.

Even great riders make mistakes so if its something can can improve your safety it cant hurt....you think rossi never locked up the rear tire....i'd still rev match but in the back of your mind you would know youd still be ok....theoretically

Heavier than stock clutch and more pieces to break. I don't believe it'll prevent crashes -- if having a slipper clutch allows the average rider to go in a corner with more speed then he'll just lose it in the corner. At some point you gotta realize your limits and ride within them.

Hey doggy tell me what you think makes a great rider, but if it has anything to do with crashing then moto gp racers are not that great because they crash all the time.
If your telling me slipper clutches were designed for safety your wrong. They dont prevent accidents and they dont make a beginner an expert. They were designed for racing application only and there is nothing safe about a racing situation.
So if you are going to preach on about safety dont lead people to think that a slipper clutch will help them round corners at very lean angles at high rate of speed.

I hope you do not take too much offense to what i have said i only care about the next newbie rider that clings onto are every word and then ends up dead. This reply was not in any way to bash you or to ridicule you, it was written to put a perspective on slipper clutches.
