Another great example as to why we should wear our riding gear...........

"I'm too cool to wear gear..." What an IDIOT! Seems like he only had a helmet, shirt and jeans...not even gloves for Christ sake!

I don't feel sorry for him in the least bit. It's been said over and over and over again to wear your damn gear. I hope he realizes that that helmet saved his life.

What about pants? I just bought a 2pc leather suit this year and I know I should but I just can't see spending 20minutes getting the whole darn thing on and sweating like a big to get to work 15minutes later and be smelly and sweaty all day. lol

I wear my textile jacket for riding to work and my short joe rocket gloves and my XL shoei helmet with my work shoes. When I go out riding now I wear either the top or both pieces of my leathers, gauntlet gloves and my L Arai helmet, and my racing boots. I only wear pants if I don't have a passenger, if I do then I just wear the jacket because how would I feel if we wrecked and she had all the leg road rash and I was ok.

The saddest thing about watching that vid was the fact that the guy did not acknowledge the fact that if he was wearing his gear, he would have suffered much less.

Gloves would have saved his hands.
Leather jacket would have saved his road rash.
Heavy denim jeans (not your 10yr old thin ass blue jeans) or riding jeans would have held up allot better.
Boots probably would have helped with the foot injury.

My guess is that he did not have the properly sized helmet on. I dont see how you can get your beak chewed up like that if you have the correctly sized helmet on.

If he was geared up, he probably would just have a totalled bike and a broken collar bone.

Now he has to go through countless hours of washing and cleaning that road rash. Not fun. More pain in cleaning then actually getting it IMO.

I dont belive his story for one second either. My guess is he was riding out of his limits and probably going way to fast.  I do feel sorry for him only because that looks ridiculously painful. +1 on wearing your gear

thing is, sometimes after a couple of month of putting up your gear each time you go out and nothing has yet to arrive, you start to be more careless and don't wear full gear.  THat's when the problems arrives.

I noticed on my jacket the other day, I had half a fly left on my left shoulder pad. Besides road rash...keeping the bug juice off you should be a good enough reason

Anyway, sucks for this guy to learn his lesson this way. Almost seems like the only way some people will learn. I know this guy with a harley who took a spill once. Last time he ever went riding without a helmet.

That music was gay, wish he would have showed some pics of the bike...guess he was a little too busy being messed up to take pics. I'm suprised that his pants held up as well as they did. I normally only wear my regular jeans when I ride. Still use my textile jacket with gloves and a helmet, and I try to always use my steeltoe Docs.

+1

add to it my icon field armor back/chest protection as i don't really trust the soft crap in the Joe Rocket jacket, I really should start wearin atleast the knee sliders I got in Austria since I don't like the look of the Rocket pants(they look like snow pants) for daily rides... or I should just invest in a decent pair of riding jeans to go w/ the rest of the daily riding gear(Rocket textile jacket, Teknic over the wrist/armored knuckle gloves, Arai helmet, and Ecco over the ankle boots)

wait, wait, wait... you guys missed something that I saw?

Click on the "more info" link thing for the video... he discusses his lack of gear

That said (or more accurately, because of that), he's a f**king retard.

i wear a 2pc suit zipped together with gloves, sport-touring hein gericke boots and shoei helmet and feel like i'm nude when something is not there. i know it can be very hot in summer days, but in case of an accident i'd prefer to look better than this guy (that looks now like the "hellraiser"'s ugliest demon).

just remember one nice rule: if it's too hot to wear all the gear , it's too hot to ride the motorcycle

i thought it was "sweat rubs off, road rash doesn't"

with that said... man I see way too many squids around here... no helmets, shorts, no sleeves.... and of course when something like this happens to them then they say "i shoulda worn my gear"... and of course in most instances(not all... there still are cases of reckless cagers colliding w/ us) when ppl were still hurt w/ full gear it's usually rider error/riding beyond their abilities like that pic of the guy who hit the back of a semi going 100+ and his helmet got stuck in the back of the semi

bottom line is the best piece of gear is what's between the ears, but a smart and safe rider still could use a lil' help... that's why I'm also glad to say that on top of full gear I have full coverage on the bike and medical insurance

I'm sure he thought his rocker hair was going to protect him when he fell.

Is it possible his shield came off because he didn't have it locked in place? I think I'm going to start locking mine and deal with my glasses fogging up.

i just saw the more info

"I know I should of been wearing "gear". But I've never owned gear, and even if I would of had it. I would not have been wearing it when I wrecked. I was out cruising on some back roads not tearing up the twisties."

Yeah it cant be stressed enough to have the gear on always. I myself dont really have anything for the legs, but im gonna get the ICON leg field armor. Still wont save my ass and hips from rash but my knees and shins will always be protected cuz i'll wear it with any pair of pants. Gotta start picking up pairs of riding pants as money allows. I got a good helmet, jacket, and gloves that I never ride without. Always wear my Timberlands which is all I have for now but they are leather and cover the ankle til I get riding boots which I am saving for. At least I got the essentials. I dont understand why people wait until they wreck to then preach about gear. We are the smart ones apparently who let other people wreck to show us that we need gear. My dad pisses me off so much. He's the typical Harley guy who always tell me "None of that gear is gonna save you when you crash at anything over 80mph" I basically have to explain simple physics to him that in a wreck unless you go straight into an unmovable object, the gear WILL save your ass. When that cager crashes into you no matter how good of a rider you are, wouldnt you want that full face helmet on when your head smashes through their window or worse? He doesnt grasp the concept. As most Harley guys dont.

and that's why all they wear is a leather jacket and the WWII nazi helmets....

it's just like the guy I got my bike from... he threw in a NEVER used Arai helmet b/c his rationale was "what good is it gonna do in a crash? most deaths happen from internal shock and brain bleeding..." uhh... that's WHY you wear the helmet, the compression foam inside is supposed to absorb that shock for you, granted it won't help in ALL cases, it's DOT and SNELL approved b/c it handles the shock not 'cause it keeps you from looking like Sloth from The Goonies....
