If someone could shed a little light as to which carb sync tool is the best to use. I'm considering getting the mercury filled bar type as opposed the analog kind. Are the liquid one's more accurate, or are they essentially both the same?

I have the bar type I used on my wifes old R6. It worked great. I don't think they come with mercury anymore. they substituted some more health friendly fluid.
As for the analog style, they are ok, as long as you get a good set. And that means a lot of money. the cheap kits you see are not accurate at all. the problem is having all of the gauges synced to each other, and with the cheap kits, they just won't be accurate enough in my opinion.
for the money, you really can't beat the the bar type.
Simple, cheap, and more accurate than a normal 4-carb synch tool. You're working with a much lower pressure differential measuring the difference between carbs rather than the absolute pressure vs. atmospheric so you can use a light fluid and make very precise adjustments.
With a 4 carb setup, you balance each carb against your reference carb separately. The original article was writtten with 2-strokes in mind, with a 4 stroke you use ATF as your manometer fluid, it won't do any harm if some gets sucked into the engine.
Thanks for the replies fellas. The liquid bar type it will be. They still sell the mercury ones. The bike's got 16K so the valves need checking along with a TB synchronizing. I'll be getting this one, previously marketed as MotionPro:
I have a morgan carbtune pro and I love it. It cost me about $100 shipped from Morgan (UK company), but it works great and it's easy to use. Instead of liquid, it uses stainless rods.
If I ever go to sell it, I can probably make $75 off of it on ebay and I don't have to screw around with some of the other ones.
Well worth it, IMO.
Yep, those Carbtunes sell for good money, even used.
Got the carb sticks today, they're manufactured by Barracuda Bike Parts (China), but it's decent quality nonetheless. This seller on eBay is letting them go for $41 shipped: LINK. Good seller, will give you a UPS tracking number & ships immediately. Here's some pics in case anyone's interested:
Measures 2ft/61cm long.

Hmm looks like the mercury is included separately. If so, does that mean a different fluid could be used?
Me no likey mercury (can't believe all those years parents stuck thermometers filled with that junk in our mouthes :P)
