Hey all, had an interesting expereience today.

I was riding to lunch, from work, and a gust of wind hit me from the side and made my bike tilt a little. Now I know that we create quite a bit of wind when we ride (I can hear enough of it). But, I'm pretty new to riding and was wondering how ya'll cope with riding on a windy/gusty day.

yeah, that's pretty much what I ended up doing all day yesterday.. was a windy day in Seattle... but just wondered if anyone had tips/tricks

Hey, Mark W, I'm from maple valley(by kent) Now in e, wa.(soap lake) The home of wind, every day... In fact, it's steady 35mph, gusts to 45, right now.
Unless your used to evasive manuvers, in a tuck... head wind, can minamize w/ a tuck. I.... grip w/ knees, and counter steer w/ the wind side bar, by pushing. It seems to be the fastest way to correct. NOW.... my secret.... If the wind is coming from the left side, I prop my left knee out, cornering style. It catches the wind from the speed of the bike and sort of works like a sea anchor, against the gale. Vice versa. It isnt "chicken", NOT to ride, when the wind is theatening. But w/ caution and skills (practice), OK.

I live in AZ and we rarley get high winds here in the valley, especially this time of year. On Monday, I went to pick up my new bike and would you believe it, winds were blowing 35 mph, with higher gusts; I used to ride in the wind all the time when I was younger, but wasn't completely comfortable with the idea of checking the 1krr's lean angles first ride out, especially since its the 1st bike i've owned in over 10 years. Its amazing what comes back to you, I made the short 15 mile trip back to work from the dealer with nothing more than sweaty palms, and forturnately the winds died down by the time i started the trek home from work, but the ride from the dealer to work will always be memorable.

When I was younger and lived in Vegas, my bike was my on transportation; lots of time spent in the wind. The one thing i learned was that its not the wind you have to worry about, its when all of a sudden it stops after you've been leaning into it for a while. Best advice I can give is to pay attention, stay tight on your scoot, hang on and do your best to keep your bike on both wheels....
