Hey guys, its me again, and yet another question on Sprockets and their many all-important teeth :)



What Im wondering now, is this:

At the moment, my 2003 CBR 600 RR has been geared up fairly aggressively. Stock gearing is 16/43. It is currently wearing a set of AFAM sprockets geared at 15/47. Now the question... How much difference will going down 2 teeth in the rear make? I recently purchased a set of RRP Sprockets geared 15/45 and it came complete with a DID x-ring chain. Will I be able to notice the difference? Will my high-strung bike finally be able to calm down a bit at highway speeds? I just want something that will allow me to run around 65-70 mph without having to rap it up to over 7 grand on the tach. Also, to cruise through my town (25 mph) I have to get into 4th before i can keep my rpm's below the 3 1/2 grand mark. Any idea where my bike should run on the tach now? And how much difference will my mph readout change back towards "normal"?


Im hoping this helps, if not, yell at me and call me a squidly lidly noob for buying before asking. I just figured 2 teeth would make a noticable difference :S

You should notice some difference but it's still geared a bit steeper than stock so it'll still be quick. If you want to know exactly what the rpm difference will be then plug in the numbers on this site. The tranny ratios will be in the owners manual. Circ of back tire is (radius X radius X 3.14). A 2 tooth decrease on the rear sprocket will raise your top end around 10mph but you can plug in all the #'s to get an exact number.

sweet... thats not bad... but it seems like my bike is f*ked for the long run, as it actually drops quite a bit of mph per rpm.... whats up w/ that?

I have a 180/55 zr17 (M/C (73W) ) ? rear tire, and my gear ratios are as follows:

Primary: 2.111 (76/36)
First: 2.666 (32/12)
Second: 1.937 (31/16)
Third: 1.611 (29/18)
Fourth: 1.409 (31/22)
Fifth: 1.260 (29/23)
Sixth: 1.666 (28/24)


I just wanted to know if ill be below 5000 rpm at 65/70 mph... guess I should leave it in fifth??
