Hi all... I figured I'd give my CBRF it's first oil change whilst under my ownership. We don't have any motorcycle shops nearby here so figured I'd visit the auto shop nearby and see what they have. I picked up some Castrol Activ 4T, says it's formulated for all 4 Stroke motorcycle engines - Japanese and european. I did a web search on the stuff and seems Castrol recommend it for this model:

http://www.datateck.com.au/lube/castr_au/default.asp?Section=4&Make=155&Model=3407

It's a mineral base oil... there seems to be a bit of a debate with min vs synth. I'll give it a go and if anything unusual happens I'll post details.

FWIW, I paid $35 AUD for 4 litres. ($27 USD / 1 Gallon). Seems a bit on the cheap side, but won't complain if it works ok... makes regular changes more affordable.

I thought that the bike took just under 4 litres for a oil change (including the oil filter)

Yeah it does, but nice to have some left over for top ups and odds and ends around the workshop

Is car synthetic ok? Last service I used Mobile Race grade for bikes but it cost like $70, the same stuff for cages costs $39. Is their much difference or are we just paying for the fancy bike sticker?

Don´t use car syntetic oil in your bike Coopz!!!! The wear reduction additives in the car oil will stick to your clutch plates causing the clutch to slip!

Also, car engine oils aren't meant for gearboxes.
Bike oils are the only way to go, as they are formulated to withstand the crushing that they get between the gears!
I use Motul 3000+ (around $45AU for 4ltrs.) or Motul5000+.
As long as you use proper bike oil and change at least every 5-6K, and a filter every second change, I don't think it makes a huge difference what you use.  It just depends on your budget, and what's available where you live.
