if you're worried about the bike stance, and you FEEL you're too short for it maybe the CBR isnt your bike, check out the gsxr600 maybe, it feels shorter than my cbr600rr.

dont get a bike because your friends have one and you wanna be cool or something. i got the honda because i love the looks, and it fits me great... PLUS it owns :D but just get whatever feels good to you, otherwise it'll be a bitch to build confidence.

I am 5' 8" tall and I rest the ball of my feet on the ground. I am sure a good boot would make up that distance however I would like to get an extra 1/2" to 3/4" lower though. I only weigh 140lbs so I would guess it would be just like a heavy person was on the bike and bottoming out wouldn't be and issue

what does the rear spring adjuster do on the side of the bike? would that mess up the preload or something?

The dealership should have a line on the wall that says "You must be this tall to ride".

i just joined the forum now so i can learn more about the motorcycle life and get to know more ppl with same interest as me. i bought a 06 cbr 600rr on friday the orange and black one. when i got on the bike my feet are bearly scraping the ground so i am havin it lowered 1 to 2 inches that way i feel more comfy on it. now ive been readin all the messages on here and i keep seein ppl have mixed opinions some its a good thing to do for height issue some say its not a good idea throws the bike off and doesnt ride as good. from the ppl that do have it lowered does it make a huge impact on handlin and turning? also for those who do have it lowered how many inches is it lowered is there a big change from lowerin it one inch than lowerin it 2 inches. thanks im only 5 5 maybe 5 6 but its in that ball park.

i have an RR as my first bike, got it 2 days ago. im only 5 6 and i can only toe or flat foot on one side.. standing the bike directly up, i can barely reach on both sides. it takes a bit getting used to (comfort wise) but once you get the hang of it you wouldnt know why it wouldnt be comfortable. though i recommend you lower it if you do get one because leaning at every stop isnt too safe. in my opinion you would want to be able to have both feet touching the ground when you need them there. i need to lower mine still.. guys have any suggestions?

My first bike was an EX500 that was ten years ago. I bought a CBR600RR a couple months ago. Since I have been away from the "sport" I consider this bike to be my first bike. I have done fine on it so far. I am 5'7" and felt more comfortable to lower the bike 1" in the back. Now my feet are perfectly flat footed and I feel in control of my bike. The shop at first recommended that I lower the front one inch as well, but then when they saw me on the bike, they found that I sit perfectly level, and the bike is level too. Our bikes put the driver much forward in position, than most bikes in our class. I swear this is the best mod that I've done for my bike (that and the powercommander). I take the turns just as good, maybe a little better, maybe because I feel more confident with this mod. For those that go to the track and complain that the fairing or foot peg scrapes. Why don't you buy Vortex rear sets, this will raise the pegs an 1" upwards, giving you the clearance that you need. And if you have the chronic whiner that still isn't happy, you can always take off the lowering link and put in your stock link, and get it back to your setup. I say lower it an 1" in the back only!!! YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!!!!

HondaCBR600RRhunk...this is three threads that you've posted almost the exact same reply in stating to lower it and it's the best mod ever.

How the heck does being flat footed give you "more control" over the bike...You have the typical mind frame of people who don't know how to ride and look for something mechanical to fix it for them...can't touch flat footed...lower the bike...foot pegs scrape...get different rear sets...got some head shake...get a steering damper...my friends are faster than me...add nitrous and turbo...

Forget about rider improvement...right?

I personally think you're giving out some bad advise and I can see re working the internals of your forks, maybe dropping the front 3mm and adjusting the rear suspension to compensate for the drop, adding Ohlins or Pensky shocks, but to drop it an inch and say it's the best mod ever is appears totally clueless!

I think you made your point clear in another one of your many similar replies...it's all about looking "bitchin" for you...

I'm going to do what hunk did and post about 10 of the same replies:

HondaCBR600RRhunk...I asked a friend of mine...someone who I greatly respect and races professionally and here's what he said:

quote:

It depends... Just the front? Just the rear? both?

1" is pretty dramatic. If you go from either end alone, the geometry will be all screwed up and it will handle poorly. You will either turn in WAY too fast (front dropped) or turn in WAY too slow (rear dropped).

In every instance, you're going to sacrafice ground clearance which is a HUGE deal on the 600rr. If you're commuting and don't really lean that much, you can get by with it without having a problem, but if you're to the edge of your tires right now (or close to it), you will be dragging pegs, plastics and ultimately case covers until you crash.

Additionally, unless you go with an aftermarket shock to lower the rear, you're stuck using 'dog-bones' to lower it. This REALLY screws up the lever ratio of the rear pro-link suspension. The angles on the 'C' piece of the linkage change pretty significantly which affects the pull on the bike, which affects how the rear shock works.

Overall, lowering the bike is a bad idea. Can it be done? Yes. The proper way to do it would be to:

Replace the rear shock with something aftermarket that can be built shorter.

Lower the front end to match the rear.

Use offset triple clamps to correct the new steering angle.

The total cost on all of this would be around $2000 if not a few bucks more because you would need to have some sort of chassis measurement to ensure the front end is setup right.

Can you do it cheap and have it turn out right? Not really. You're going to sacrafice handling, ground clearance and overall stability.

Hope that helps..

Read and learn...ok?

$2000 for the bike to be lowered right?? What are you smoking? Seriously. I haven't had any issues and many others on here who have lowered their bike haven't had issues. YOU TELL ME TO READ AND LEARN. I tell you to EXPERIENCE IT FIRST HAND, AND LEARN BETTER. Its this type of propaganda that people need to be aware of. It maybe true if your lowering the bike dramatically, but 1" is not going to throw everything off. I read in a cycle mag, that the crew lowered their bike 1" in the back only, and this made the rider have better lap times, yes an improvement. For those wanting to lower your bike 1", go for it. Don't let other members convince you to do the opposite. If they really have to convince you not to do it, then there is a good reason for it, and it may not be in your best interest. Lower your ride a bit, and enjoy. Tell me how things are after you do it. You will love it, and you will notice a positive difference. Honestly.

As for me typing to all those other threads about lowering. Well if you didn't suggest NOT to do it, I wouldn't have to throw in my opinion to do otherwise. There is a reason why your a super member. If you ride more than you are on the computer answering threads, than maybe you would see for yourself what you can learn from riding your bike. Let those that want to lower their bike, to lower it okay bud?! Your discouraging people from doing it, just from what a buddy or two are saying about it. I've been there, and done it, you haven't. So your words are empty. Like I said before do it, and see how good it is. You will notice a better difference all around. If you don't like it, you can always spend another hour and remove it, and put the stocker in. Capeesh?!!

I'm right there with you buddy, for every 10 negative replies you sent out, I'm there to negate the B.S. that YOU put out.

The members here have their own good personal experiences about lowering their bike. So just let it be, your not going to change anyone's mind, sorry to say.
