$2000 for the bike to be lowered right?? What are you smoking? Seriously.
$2k is not outrageous if you're totally revamping your suspension. IMHO, that's the best way to go. Lowering links leave your rear shock in a position it was not designed to be in.

quote:

I haven't had any issues and many others on here who have lowered their bike haven't had issues. YOU TELL ME TO READ AND LEARN. I tell you to EXPERIENCE IT FIRST HAND, AND LEARN BETTER.
Okay, I'll give you my FIRSTHAND experience. I lowered my F3 1". It was fine...until I took it to the track. I was scraping fairings in the turns. I ended up going back to stock height and even raising the rear higher than stock. So in my firsthand experience, anybody who tells you they haven't had any issues isn't pushing their bike very hard.

johnny, you can read more about my experience here (I just don't feel like re-typing it):
http://cbrworld.net/forums/thread/248611.aspx

Can you lower it? Yes. The real question is whether or not you should. Only you can answer that. To do such, I think you first need to determine what your ultimate goal is in relation to riding. Are you just going to tool around town with occasional jaunts into the twisties?? Or are you going to be kneedragging on the rumble strips??? I'm not trying to sway you one way or the other. I'm just sharing the experience from someone whose been there and has taken it to a level that most riders with lowered bikes don't go.

In the link above, I discuss my views on various lowering methods. Hopefully, they can help you make an informed decision. You can decide what works for you (and your budget) if you still decide to lower it. Just realize that you don't get something for nothing (as with any mod on these bikes) and you will be sacrificing something.

Good luck!

I don't know which thread to reply in so I pick this one...

hunk all you succeeded in doing is make yourself look stubborn and thick headed...I'm glad you enjoy your lowered bike, but you haven't offered anything but your opinion (as is mine but more factual).

The suspension modifications are suggested as the "right way to do it," obviously not the only way...I'm amazed that you ignored my example of the girl that crashed from her lowered bike and the very technical example from a professional racer and you discredit as "propaganda?" That amazes me!!! You make it seem like lowering your bike is one of the best kept secrets in the motorcycling community and I'm a protester spreading negative propaganda about it...what a hoot!!!

As far as needing to experience it...sorry...I don't need to lower my bike (I'm only an inch taller than you)...it handles just fine without it...you could tell me that jumping out of an airplane without a parachute is exciting and will improve my sky diving skills and I have enough common sense to be able to figure out that I don't need to experience that...get the picture.

Are you recommending that this "throwing on a dog bone secret" is something that's been missed in the racing circuit and every one should do it to improve their lap times? Maybe you misunderstood that Cycle Mag propaganda...

Like was mentioned in another thread...sure it CAN be lowered, but is it a good performance enhancing idea...no!

Oh and thanks for the laugh...

Eh don't worry about it bud, I am 5'8 exact, and I am on my tipee toes at the light, I still have full stabilty of my bike even if heavy winds. You can even put all the weight on one leg. After a couple of hours, you will get use to it!

As much as I hate to say, but if you are that short go sit on a Gixxer. They have the lowest seat, but that is not the only thing. The seat is much narrower than CBR. You will find you will be very comfy on this bike. I am 6 foot, 205 and am barely flat footed on what I consider the CBR to have the highest seat height in the class, except for Triumph. My good buddy has an 06 636 and is 5'7, dropped it twice on the first day. Since then though, he is by far the best and fastest rider ergo no "chicken strips". My other buddy has the 06 Gixxer 600, I have bent legs and flat feet on this bike. My buddy with the 636 is almost flat footed on the Gixxer. You can learn on any bike, but you will probably be more comfy on the Gixxer at the start. Hope this helps.

Those motorcycle boots might actually do the trick. One problem would be trying to shift and trying to brake. Where did you get those boots at CK?? The gay motorcycle den. With a name like CK, you seem too flamboyant for most of us. Yeah and your probably singing "I'm too sexy for my gay boots, I'm too sexy for this post, I'm too sexy for my bike." Good for you buddy, more power to you. There is no shame in your game. Is that the best you can come up with to insult Johnnykhan? What a chucklehead, trying to be a wise guy eh?! Think before you insult someone of his stature.

Actually Fretless is pretty much right on the money. Once you lower your bike, everything changes. It may very well feel more stable because it has a lower center of gravity, but all the geometry of the bike has changed. You'll end up dragging the pegs and your feet easier causing instability, possibly bottom out on the pan or fairing plastics too. Your turn in ability has also changed. The swingarm in relation to the frame has also changed decreasing the angle. Do what you want really, but it's not a change for the better.
I'll probably post this in all the sections since there are like 5 different topics on the same subject going.

I am 5-8" and about 145# but diffrent ppl cary thier height in diffrent parts of thier boddies and also weight plays a huge role too. F4I was my 1st bike...I was tiptoed all the time and was learning to deal with it (not pulling into spots I was going to have to push backwards out of etc) until one day after about 3 months of riding, I pulled up to a red light in the left turn lane and reached to put my feet down and on my left side, there was a huge dip in the pavement from cars sitting there and the bike started falling over cuz i hadnt touched the ground, as that was happening a van wizzed by me and I could almost feel that mirror of that van touch my ear. That very night I lowered that thing 2" and every riding experience I had from there on on was about 20x better. way more enjoyable to ride when you are fully confident in yourself on your bike. Especialy if you are new, I doubt you are doing any knee dragging anytime real soon so I say get used to riding, dealing with traffic and so on on a bike that feels good to you. It only takes an hour to raise it back up when you are ready.

Agree, disagree?

Eddie, Eddie, Eddie..... I read all the responses from this post, and you gave the best answer. You are the winner, you will receive a free 2007 CBR1000RR in the next few months.
To answer your question, yes I agree with your opinion. Finally a guy with brains. Let me tell you, there are not too many members with brains in this forum, no offence to the innocent guys. I'm talking about a couple of guys in here that talk out of their ass. You can't miss them. Your one of the few that actually makes sense and has a fair answer and solution. Thats tough to find in these forums, keep up the good work. I too had mine lowered 1" and I feel more in control of my bike. And not just at a stop or a red light, but also through the twisty roads in my city. If I ever did get to the point of knee dragging, then maybe I would think about putting the height to stock, and maybe throw in some rear sets for extreme lean angles for good measure. But you won't see me at the track, maybe the drag strip, so knee dragging is the least of my worries. Besides a buddy of mine doesn't have his bike lowered, and he still scrapes pegs when he goes to the track. He did have problems with that until he put in some Vortex rear sets. To each their own I guess...

i'm 5'6'' and in the market for a new bike. i ride a 1994 Yamaha Seca right now (beginner bike w/ 60hp) and the balls of my feet hit the ground. my friend has a 05 R6 and the tips of my toes hit the ground with sandals on. i havent tried with my racing boots on. I think im gonna cruise on by the Honda dealer and sit on one of their CBR's.

LOL...can I still reply here?

Try shaving the seat if you decide on an RR...Many new riders are concerned about having both feet flat on the ground, however it's not completely necessary to safely operate a motorcycle...if you need to back up your bike, get off and push it...that's what I do and it's a lot safer than paddling backwards (doesn't look as silly either). How many of us sit with both feet at a light? I hardly ever do...I usually have my weight shifted over to one side with the bike balanced and my right foot on the rear brake, or more importantly I typically have my left foot on the peg ready to shift out of neutral (because I hate having to hold the clutch too long) and go when the light turns green...that's real world, everyday riding...that's how I do it! I rarely ever have the need to sit with both feet flat on the ground.

Oh...by the way...in before the lock
