Hey Guys,
I started my bike yesterday and it started up fine, i let it run for a while, turned it off then started it back up again ( I was trying out new keys) and it ran. the gas light was on, and the bike died so i figured that it ran out of gas. i went to the gas station and filled up a gas container with gas and brought it back and filled up the bike. Now when i try to start it i you hear the starter trying but the engine never comes to life. If i hold the throtle back and hold the start button after a while it will backfire. I'm clueless. please help

Do you have a service manual? The trouble shooting section might help.

Check your battery, spark plugs, fuel injection? Are you starting the bike in neutral?

Well if it back fires than you are getting fuel and spark, otherwise it wouldnt do that. You are probably just doing something wrong. Not being an ass, just replying.

Something else that might have happened is that you have flooded it and need to let it sit and try it again. Doesn't that bike have a choke or does it have fuel injection? That in combination with holding the throttle wide open while trying to start it will generally not lead to a successful start, more like a dead battery.

I have a 2000 CBR f4 (carborator), i thought it may have been flodded so i let it sit for a few hours and tried it again, same thing. I belive it does have a choke, i bought the bike used so I dont have the manual but I may need to order one, one thing that i heard from a fellow rider was vapor lock, he suggested i try starting the bike with the gas tank open. have any of you heard of that?

Sounds like it went from one problem to another. Now with it backfiring the way you're starting it, it may be flooded or vapor lock is a possibility. Try letting it sit with the tank open and then try later. If not and this all started all of the sudden. You may have had something fail, fuel system, plugs, etc.

I may not know how to do it, but I still know how to get it done.
