Yo, what are you running for CR.???? Unless it's above the roof ( not even near stock pistons), the "98 low oct.") ain't the problem... hows that time'n, are you overheating, water wetter, good oil... Is the ping, at high r's too???? Clean and free, Ripp'n

All stock, 4month old cbr600rr. Ping is at low speed about 40mph, dunno if its still there at higher speeds cause the sound of air get loud. I get it about 1 in every 5-8 rides, so its rare. no over heating, everything seems fine. However, I just dropped my bike for the 3600 mile service and told them about it. I'll see what they'll say tomorrow when I go get it. Even though, I still like to know how to add octane to fuel, I would prefer 100+ octane, if its not a pain in the a$$ doing it everyday, cause I fill my tank everyday

The reason your bike is "knocking" is because you're lugging it. The 600RR is meant to be revved dude. Especially starting off or up an incline you gotta let that baby breathe ... give it RPM's and I promise the "knock" will go away Please don't waste any money on octane boosters -- they will not in any way help your problem.

A CBR600 does not need more than 87 octane. You will have worse performance with higher octane. STOP wasting your money!!!!!!

kidding me? 87? thats ridculous.. the manual says use 98, look up racing sites and other info, on track they use 100+ oh i got my bike back today, its sounds better... here petrol stations don't have higher octane fuel, cause there's no demand on it... thanks however...

I was just about to say the same thing; doesn't the owner's manual "recommend" using only 87 oct? I believe it does. Now unless you've done some major engine mods I don't think you really need the extra octane points. My $0.02.

Yes, there is actually les Energy in higher octane fuel. It burns slower and is a waste of money and your engines potential. Our ECU is not designed to take advantage of higher octane fuel. Unless you have a dyno, a knock sensor and a wideband w/ egt. I seriously doubt you have the tools to take full advanteage of the higher octane rating. If you were to raise octane thoug, id use race gas, jet fuel, or toulene/xylene.

Higher octane will result in higher performance period. Most people say it doesnt do anything cause they dont buy it.

oh no. did i get the wrong manual? Well I doubt you got the wrong manual, but anything is possible! If I remember correctly, my F4i (no I don't ride the RR) manual stated something about using 87 octane. I can check tonight though and let you know what I find for my bike. I just checked the service manual I have (pdf) and although it gives a recommended oil, brake fluid, coolant, etc. it doesn't say anything about octane.

Please don't post ignorant opinions as facts until you come back with at least 1 credible source to back your statement. The octane # is simply the fuels resistance to detonation. That means higher octane fuel will not explode as easily as lower octane fuel. This comes in very handy when you raise compression (higher pressure = higher temps) or if you add a bit of timing (also increases heat). The only reason most people will think that higher octane = higher performance is because oil companies push the higher octane fuels. 93 octane costs about 3-5 cents per gallon more to refine than 87 octane yet at the pump it'll cost you 20 cents more. Now which one do you think the oil companies want you to purchase? The only advantage the 93 will have is that most oil companies add more detergents to their high priced stuff and that will help you engine. It's cheaper to run the lower octane and add your own detergent around every oil change.

you trumped one ignorant opinion with another.Instead of any facts you gave your personal opinion.Higher octane fuel burns longer and hotter increasing combustion resulting in higher performance.
