hey guys,
i've been looking and i need to get a second opinion on this and see if anyone else has had this problem.

I've been working on my bike for a few weeks, and finally got it to stop overheating, resealed the carbs,
checked the floats, etc etc.

right now after i drive it for about 15-30 minutes, it'll start to overheat when parked. i resealed the coolant lines
the other day and checked everything, it all looks good.

here's the bad part. checked the oil today after work, it was "Frothy/bubbly"
please tell me this isnt what i think it is...

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but it very well may be a mix of coolant and oil. Have you switched brands of oil lately? Maybe since your last oil change you've changed oil and the mix of the two different oils are causing this.....maybe?

yes i did switch and yes i did mix.
sob i hope that's it, time to do an oil change tonight.

ok good news and bad news.

well i changed the oil and bam, no more bubblies.
so awesome news there.

however, after about 10 minutes of running it (idle and revving)
she approaches hot, and the fan kicks on and it stays pretty hot.

i'm trying to narrow it down here, but having a hard time thinking of what it could be.
probably not the thermostat, since it takes awhile to get hot, meaning theres water flowing.
i'm not losing fluids, no leaks and no water/oil loss.

any ideas?

after i change my oil and let it cycle through the system, the temp does increase and if left long enough the fan will kick on. in fact, the temp will stay high and the fan will stay on till the bike is shut off.

now question is - what does the bike do when it is moving?

i'm guessing that you probably don't have a high amount of airflow to cool the rad and wick away the heat from the engine. if you ride it around i think the temp will go down and you won't have any problem.

this never happens when it is cooler (50-60's) since it takes forever for the bike to warm up. probably just the hotter temps causing the bike to heat up quicker.

Damn sinususus feel like barbed wire is being run through them.

I'm 95% sure your frothy oil was due to an overfill condition. What can happen (even if it's only slightly overfilled) is the connecting rods plow through the excess oil and basically act like a blender and make your oil frothy. This can be very bad if it's run like this for extended periods. The frothy oil will decrease the volume being pumped to vital components and cause wear.

And I'll give a +1 on the over heating in the garage. When my 1kRR was new it'd hit 221F when idling then the fan would bring it down to 210F. Once ya get rolling past 30mph the temp will go down and stay down.

I was just reading that there is a fan on these bikes? I don't think I have one, hmmm. Do the 87 hurricanes have electric fans on them? Don't mean to hijack but this was news to me.

yes, it has a fan. mounts up behind the rad.
