I've got a 05 1000rr with Arata ti slipon, BMC race filters, and PCIIIusb and of course the flapper mod. I just got it mapped at a local dynojet facility and my tail pipe still seems to be getting black when out riding. I figured that the custom mapping would have taken care of the problem but app. not. Any ideas on how to fix it. I am running Mobil1 full syn. with my bike having 1800 miles and can not for the life of me figure out why I still am getting a fouled up looking can. Any sug. would be appriciated.

If they used a sniffer on it and your a/f ratio is good then don't worry about it. Seems that trying to compensate for ram-air our bikes tend to run a bit rich. The trade off is maybe 2 ponies on the fat side but peace of mind knowing you won't hole a piston being too lean. A wet soapy rag followed by some Honda polish will make it purdy again

Did you/they disable/disconnet the PAIR system when they dyno-tuned the bike?
If not, it will read very very lean on the dyno, so they would then add chunks of
fuel to your map to bring it back to spec.

Properly tuned you should be getting a thin coat of "dark-grey" stuff on the end of your
can. It it's black, and you can write your name in it, it's definatly way too rich. Running
these things too rich really makes a mess inside with all the carbon etc. My pistons were
black when I took a look-see... and that was after only ~3000 miles with a too-rich map.

The shop said that they always block the PAIR valve, they said it's standard pro. for all 1000RR's. Who know's though I wasn't there when they mapped it so I didn't see it for sure. As far as the fouling...................I can write my name in it. Totally pisses me off when I have a nice clean ride and then 10 minutes down the road, chillin at the local hangout, my pipe looks like the inside of a damn chimney. Any thought's on how to fix it.

Wow! 10 minutes and it's got a noticeable amount of carbon? That's way too rich -- they need to remap it ... for free! The normal stuff I'm talking about is after about 1000 miles of all kinds of riding ... not 10 minutes. Your gas mileage must really suck also.

Wow, if its really THAT bad (mine took about a tank of gas to leave the stuff you could write your name in) then you have a serious problem. Perhaps the PCIII got hooked to the upper injectors? Did you install it yourself? If it *wasn't* a PITA, you probably did it wrong :)

I can't belive any dyno operater that know to block the PAIR (mine had never heard of it <sigh>) could map a bike so extremly rich. Even if he didn't know what he was doing, he'd probably shoot for the standard 13:1 or so.

Hmm... Sorry dude, I don't know whats up... Try saving you PCIII map (so you can reload it) and load a zero map and try that... if its THAT rich, it's got to be costing you HP. I bet the odds are good you're machine will work better if you zero map (or unhook) the Powercommander until you get it remapped.

It dyno'd at 154 and 79 lbs. of torque. Seems low to me since a buddy of mine has the same mods as me and dyno'd at 157.6 and 81 lbs, of torque. I know that since it seems to be running rich I AM getting robbed of a few HP. I'm getting a copy of my dyno and map session from the shop that did my bike so I can totally go over the A/F ratio.
