Hey all, I'm changing in some Silkolene Pro 4 10w40 and a Mobil1 110 oil filter.
9055 miles on the odometer. I had a small concern with engaging first gear after
the bike was at riding temp, around 170 degrees F. It was quite noisy, not quite a Clunk, but noisy.
I am hoping this high dollar estor based syn oil will make me feel better. Piece of mind, you know?

Thor,

Well, for what it's worth. The Silkolene products are superior in quality and offer outstanding protection for any engine or transmission. This oil is manufactured by a German firm that has been involved in extensive research when the Concorde was developed along with assisting earlier in the viscosity components of high performance aircraft engines, i.e., the SuperMarine Spitfire Merlin engine. You may be extra sensitive since you have changed oil. Ester based oil is a vegetable base oil.......there is no wax or paraffin as in the petroleum type oils. I use Silkolene in my BMW K1200RS and it has certainly made a difference to me.

still clunky when engaging first, and oddly enough, in the first fifty miles i had 3 missed shifts. i hadn't had a single one since buying this beauty. i'll be changing back to the mobil1.

was this oil made for a wet clutch? I run amsoil because it has no friction modifiers added so it wont effect your wet clutch setup. Not sure if it would cause a clunking going into gear or not.. I think that would come more from having the clutch cable aligned improperly than from what kind of oil you use.
