This has been a constant topic among some less fortunate co-workers of mine who own Busa's . I am the only lucky one to own a real bike, the 06 CBR1000RR ( all Black by the way ) :)

anywho, I tell them from what little I know about the busa, it may take me in a straight away, but due to weight, I could have them looking at my rear tires in the twisties.... tell me I'm right, Not sure I want to race my stock just yet... anyone have stories?

it really depends on the rider and the racing course (like you stated). a good rider will be faster on the cbr in the twisties and faster on the busa on the strip. but the difference at the dragstrip is not what it used to be. they are really, really close. the busa has been the same since 99 (actually the 99 is the fastest because of a larger airbox, but that's a really minor thing) and the other bikes have taken leaps and bounds in terms of technology.

just keep the racing in the conversation form. unless of course it's on a racetrack. then stomp the crap out of those busa boys!

Busa's still turn the 1/4 in the nines so you'd be looking at their taillights -- after another 1/4 he'd be way gone. And forget about it if he's got a nice easy sweeper. But in the twisties that guy on the busa's gonna be putting in 10 times the effort to even keep you in sight. I've owned both and they are both excellent bikes -- they just excel at different things.

hey just ask him how many busa do you see racing in AMA ......... or winning for that matter. I think the CBR has done fairly well thanks to Miguel. Case Closed.

I can tell you the busa is very tough to get into the 9's in stock form.. I have owned one that went 198mph on gps in under a mile. i never took it to the strip but in top end acceleration you dont have a chance. the bike is way too aerodynamic.

in the turns assuming both riders are equal it goes without saying the busa is a pig. you cannot flick the bike in and out of turns..

if you wanna show the guys on the busa how the RR accelerates run them out of 2nd gear about 7k rpm and shut it down when you click 6th and youll be ahead. assuming your an equal rider and they are both stock bikes or equally modded.. thats the way i beat all the gixxer 1k's i run except i have 2 teeth up in the rear so i can run out 6th also and be ahead of the gixxers..

good luck..

Explain this in a bit more detail if ya don't mind ... are you limiting both bikes to just 7K rpms?

no i am not saying limit the bike to 7k. i am saying roll the bike out starting at 7k in 2nd gear that way you can get into it full throttle and it wont wheelie and the busa wont be making much more tq than you at 7k. if you run the busa from too low of an RPM its going to get out on you cause it makes somewhere around 100ft lbs tq..

The easiest way to beat a Busa is simple, through some curves in the mix....beyond that, in a straightline, maybe you should try the new ZX14...at least that is the same type of bike as the Busa....

Hey,

Just some input on this, I went up against a buddy the other day 4 times, Me 1000RR 06' stock, him 2004 busa yoshimura pipes, air filter, he missed the gear in the first race, second from 20km in first beat him by 2 bike lengths, third and fourth time rolling start about 60kph in second and beat him by 2-3 bike lengths. He's also got 40lbs on me for weight hes about 230lbs-ish I am 185lbs. So thats all I have to add I was happy and not surprized at the outcome.

not surprising if you do the math on the HP the busa makes and the hp you make + the weigh difference of the bikes which is over 100lbs and then 40lbs for your buddy. the RR is a quicker bike for sure.. if you stay in it though to top of 6th hell catch you for sure if he has the balls to tuck and go up top.. stock they do 186mph and the 99's do 190mph.. youll be lucky to clip 176mph depending on mods.. the busa is the top end king just cause of aerodynamics.. less HP needed to pull you thru the wind..

I figure I can chime in since I have a 12 and a buddy on the board here has a bone stock 1000rr 05.

I weigh 125, he's about 165.

My mods: -1 front sprocket, lowered, pc3R, bear short stacks, bmc race filter, 40 shot of nitrous, full muzzy exhaust, no mirrors, flush signals.

Whenever we do roll-ons I obviously pull him...if I handicap him a gear then its close, but by the end of 3rd its always game over.

HOWEVER:

Recently we swapped and did rolls from 2nd 3rd and 6th....best believe my flyweight ass on his flyweight bike tied him on the 12 for the most part! I was SUPRISED to say the least....of course let em open up for a while and of course the 12 will walk, we both know that. But just goes to show how much power:weight really matters.

The fact that you're on the faster newer 1000rr and the weight difference is similar (40 lbs...maybe more) has me thinking you should get him.

I noticed that these newer 600s and 1000s don't have shit as far as wind protection...the 12 offers better protection than even the busa!

I thought the 14 was the one that finally beat the busa for wind resistance ... not the 12 ... dammit why aren't I informed of these things Anyway, with -1 and a full exhaust you ought to walk someone that weighs 40# more. With a 40 shot of nitrous shouldn't even be close -- especially being lowered. I bet that bad boy screams in the 1/4mile. But if he's got any riding skills at all, you don't wanna go playing in the canyons and twisty places

i agree with what your saying.. the 12 should be faster especially with your setup. however the busa is still the most aerodynamic bike ever built and thats why they are the top end kings. i have seen many 12's with more hp never make it past 200mph while my busa with just drop in cams pulled 198mph in 9/10 of mile. thats not a long distance.. matter of fact they did an article in a mag comparing both the 12 and the busa was much more aerodynamic and provided better protection according to the graphs they showed..

i havent read much on the zx14 but i doubt they have even 1/4 of the hours the busa does in the wind tunnel.

Yeah, my 12 is pretty quick. 202.25 @ Maxton last April.

You run 9/10 so you probably know Iceman and maybe Phantom12?

I ran 185.3 no spray w/nos mapping, 172 rich/retarded/conservative HP and 206 mph gearing @ maxton! I'm sure you're well aware that 9/10 mph mph is about 2 shy of Maxton Mile mph since you guys roll from 25 vs the standing start mile, right? The 12, as you can see, isn't exactly a slow bike.

I'll just say this about the whole 12 vs Busa stuff. Stock vs stock or pipe/pc3/filter vs same, the 12 always walks away. Its a fact. 12 makes more HP and what you see on the dyno is only the beginning. It has the best ram air of ANY production bike to date. The busa is no slouch. It has better aeros but the aeros don't REALLY make the difference until a bit later...soon as both get into 4th gear its bye bye busa. Neither loses sight of the other though. You can pick up a copy of Mach 3 if you don't believe me. Even when I was just piped/pc3/filter and -2 in the rear I would still walk the 1000 the same, you can ask him yourself when he responds (which I'm sure he will soon). Jason McVicar ran a pipe/filter 12 @ bonneville...195.6 mph on the limiter....you don't see Busas smacking into their limiters....they don't have the HP. Not in stock or stock-ish form. Again, I DO realize they are more aerodynamic....they are dead close.

Strip: Busa gets the nod by a smidge, I'll admit. Longer, lowerer, more torque, better clutch
Hwy roll: 12 if you're in the right RPM
Top end: Once you keep dumping money into them the busa will always win. Cheaper to turbo, more ccs, and better aeros.

BTW, you SURE you ONLY had drop in cams? No pipe, no pc3, no filter? Stock mirrors on?

My 12 dynoed @ 201 hp (a lil wheel slip) and ran 202.25 @ Maxton w/205 mph gearing on a 40 shot, stock motor. Not too shabby.

Fastest MPH recorded by a 12 ever was 249 mph. Busa is 261. Not toooooo far off considering there are 50 busas to every 12 out there. That being said, look for me next year. Going for 250 mph on a street turbo 12. No shit. 400+ rwhp, 500 on spray.

ALL THAT BEING SAID......

I'm looking to run a 285 hp turbo busa this weekend w/my 215ish hp 12. He weighs 320 lbs! Hopefully my buddy on the 1000rr can simulaneously duke it out w/a bone stock K6 guy who weighs 195 lbs.

Watch for results soon!

A.
