Ok, I can't see any oil in the oil window thing on the right side, you know where the oil is supposed to be viewed, am I supposed to tilt the bike to see it? Its on the kickstand and I'm trying to see it but its not there, no oil is visible. Also my bike has started to make a ticking sound, and I'm worried about the pistons ceasing up. Which would totally destroy any hopes of finishing the season. The ticking sound is audible when the bike is in neutral. Also when I am in motion from 1st to 2nd. It kind of fades away after I get up in the gears, after 35 mph maybe, am I in serious danger of critical failure? Let me know because I'm scared shitless about this right now!@

I have the same tiny ticking sound, but bike runs strong... I know it is common on older Katana's but not sure about cbr's...about the oil yes it has to be standing straight up, so have someone sit on it and you can look.

Some bikes are intended to have their oil read when it's on the sidestand (like Buells), and others (like my Kawi) are to be up right (in which case, you need a second person there, in order to get a good view). Check your owner's manual to find out what's right for your bike.

If you're seeing NO oil when it's on the sidestand, however, even if it's intended to be read upright, it sounds like she's a bit low.

Don't panic... for now, have someone stand it up for you and check it upright. Make sure the oil falls between the lines.

then check Ebay and Amazon... order yourself an owner's manual, and a Hayne's Manual. :)

Ok now you're just plain not paying attention. We've told you at least three times, this is going to be a two-person job. Have someone ELSE sit on your bike, while YOU crouch on the ground next to the bike, and read the oil window (better that you see for yourself that there's oil in the bike, rather than trust someone else's opinion).

Or, you can set up a camera with a timer and then run and sit on it real fast!

Or, you can use mirrors, i have 6 set up in my garage so when i look straight i can see the oil gauge, tail light, font light, and myself so i can fix my hair.

Or, !

(Edited by Mod Team - Entertaining, but still probably a bit over the line)

ACTUALLY if you are confident and only if you feel up to it , you can pull the bike towards you at it's balance point and have the kickstand down on the left side for good measure , just straighten the front wheel, and have a flashlight, and you should be able to read it yourself.
I change my oil all the time and to "eye" it I don't need another person.

Now REMEMBER , I am quite familiar with this bike, weight, etc. so I am comfortable in leaning it towards me to read it,
The other suggestions are good ones though, have someone shit on it and stand it up (straddled so you can read it)

But it can be done by yourself , just leave the kickstand down on the other side and you leave her in gear so you can always let it fall back (away from you) and it won't roll or fall off the kickstand ,

Just a suggestion if you feel "comfy"

GO HONDA!

if its going to be that difficult for you. Take it to a bike shop and have them check your oil, you might get a few laughs but hey atleast you know you now have enough oil in the engine.
