i started to remove the cover of my alternater with the intention of inspecting and possibly replacing the stator. however when i started to remove the cover (the piece of metal that says "honda" on it) a good amount of oil started to leak out. i quickly replaced the bolts and tightened them. should oil be leaking out of thie area? the manual didnt say anything with regards to oil.

i also used a ohmmeter to test the alternator. I tested the three yellow wires going from the alternator to the regulator/rectofier and i got a .3 rating through out the system (the manual gives a rating between .1 and 1.0 as good) is this a sure fire way to test my alternator or could there still be problems with it?

thanks for any help

yeah the stator is full of Oil as I understand it.... I've ready many stories on the 'net that when someone drops their bike and the stator crack open oil always comes out.

what i did when i changed the stator on my 900 is lean it pretty far over on the opposite side so that it wouldnt pour oil everywhere....easiest thing IMO
