that doesn't sound good. i rode a new 1krr with like 500 miles on it... SMOOTH. i'm no master mechanic but IMO there shouldn't be any "knocking/pinging"... EVER.

am i right in saying that the pinging knocking noise occurs when you load the engine at low rpms, with the 05 model?

Lugging the 1000, especially up a hill, will cause it to knock a bit. Solution is to give it what it wants -- more throttle in a lower gear

Maybe some bad gas, but that wouldn't explain why it goes away at higher RPM.

They all do it. Just be sure you've got 91 octane or better in the tank. My buddy has an '04 1Krr and his makes the same noise that my Repsol does. His old GSX-R 750 was worse.

Check you cam chain tensioner... in the F3s, they were very likely to wear out and needed to be replaced, usually with a APE manual tensioner! my .02 cents MT

Hope your problem is solved. My 06 doesn't do that, unless of course i am in too high of a gear for the speed and rpms....I ran my bike under 5500 most of the first 600 miles, with a couple of 4,5,6 gear blasts upwards of 9k rpm. have almost 700 miles on it now, and she purr's like a fat and happy cat. I am taking it in to the dealership for service, hopefully this week, as all my mods are in except my pipe which should be here thursday. If you aren't 'in the wrong gear' so to speak, I'd really let the dealer check it out, honda's are very reliable, but any bike can have a factory defect, best to be sure since it's under warranty anyway

Check your fuel, we all run 95 octane with no such problems

Quick question. My bike has 81 miles on it and when it is idling I hear a loud ticking, I don't think it is deep enough to be called knocking but I have never heard a bike engine "knock" so I don't know. When I am moving I don't hear anything but the engine and it sounds fine. I read somewhere that the '06 is a little noisier in terms of this kind of thing. I don't remember hearing this on my 900RR. Is this normal? I'll let the service guy listen when I bring it in on Friday to pick up my rear seat cover. Thanks.

I used the trusty old "search" function and at least found some reassurance that this is normal, but damn, that is some loud ticking. I would be more concerned if (like many others), I heard noise once I was moving or higher in the rpm range.
