Well I just installed a new manual CCT on my 91 f2. It sounds great when at idle but the minute I twist the throttle just a little the noise begins. It is a loud rattle noise. I tried adjusting the cct and get no change in the sound. Also I can tell when I start to get too tight on the chain, I hear the cams start to stress a little so I back off on the tensioner. Any suggestions that might help me out a little.

Thanks

If you put a new CCT on that should cure the problem, although some new CCTs have been known to be faulty, see if you can try another to cure the rattle, if that dosent cure it you may have another problem with the engine sorry to say,
it could also be that the cam chain guides have worn out, if your putting too much tension on these it wont help matters,

So the guides could cause a loud rattle? That may be just about the only thing. It sounds like something is slapping against the inside of the engine.

Found the problem! Pulled the cams and the first intake valve lifter I pulled had a piece of metal under it. It was the valve cotter. This keeps the valve in place with the springs. well the valve was just hitting randomly and causing the rattle. I have to pull the head and inspect the valve and install a new cotter.

Well, I have pulled the head and installed the new valve cotter (keeper). I have also checked the valve clearances and set the timeing. Now I have it all back together and waiting to start it. Just have to let a few places that have gasket sealant to dry. I will keep you posted as to how it goes.
