OK, its down to the wire time for me to buy a bike. I am getting either a '06 kaw 636 (tribal paint) or a black '05 cbr 1000 ($9900 otd). I have ridden before a long time ago on some big bikes and recently borrowed a friends new 636. The 636 handled well around town (haven't done any serious riding) but the power was enimic. How is the power delivery on the 1000? Is it a bit much to hang on to or is it not as much a factor as long as you take it easy? I mean I liked the 636 but worried it will feel buzzy and weak once I get use to it.

Alot of people are going to tell you different but I bought my first bike a little over a month ago....yes, the 2005 CBR1000RR. I havent been on any other bikes. I had a dirt bike when I was 14 for about 6 months and rode a friends bike when I was 16 but was nothing close to a crotch rocket. IMO, as long as you take your time on the bike and dont try stupid stuff right off hand, you will be ok. I have heard that the 1k's are alot more powerful than the 600's but I havent been on a 600 yet. The guys I ride with like to do the wheelies runnning down the interstate when there isnt alot of traffic doing about 90-110. They have to bounce up and down to preload the springs and usually slip clutch to get it up. I was riding with them the other day and they just took off on me. Well, I just hit full throttle running about 110-120. I was even sitting down and the front came up on me. It wasnt uncontrollable or anything. Just smoothly came up. But I think as long as you respect the bike, you will be ok. Just dont try to out ride yourself or do things your not sure you can do.

xrider I just sold a 05 636 and purchased an 06 1000rr. The 636 is a great bike has good power and hanles very well. It will do what ever you ask of it well. On the other hand the cbr is just as nimble, or it atleast makes you believe it is. also the power advantage of a liter is tremendous. I don't know what area you're in but east coast honda in bensalem pa. is selling 06's for 8999.00 I got out at 10,105.00. You can't beat that since the r6 is listing for 9100.00. My opion get the bigger bike you can always go easier on the gas, and run at a more sain pace good luck.

Thats a huge deal on the '06! The shops around me can't even touch the $10,600 (otd) price I can get in Oakland. I have no idea how they are selling them for 10,105??? The '05 is $9,899 otd.

I have heard the '06 is more of a track bike than the '05 but is there any real difference? They also say the 06 has a better seat, is lighter, and fuel gauge which makes it worth the $700 difference between the '05 and '06 for me as long as its not too edgy.

I just bought a used black '06 ninja 636 + 5 year extended with only 175 miles on it with NO scratches or blems for $8000. I can sell back the warrenty for $500 which makes the bike only $7500. I think I'd like the '06 cbr1000 more but there is no loss to worry about even if I feel the need to trade up later, so this is just too good to pass up.

Dude i would highly reccomend get a litre sports bike very easy to ride quickly and safely believe me you will not be dissapointed

Doubt you'll get a lot of 'go for the kawi' on this site, but you should get the bike your really want....you are comparing an apple with an orange comparing the 636 to the 1krr; think about how you'll be riding it most..(really riding it, not how you'd like to ride it).....the 1krr is a great all around bike, from daily commutes to canyon runs, you'd be hard pressed to find a more versatile mount. Track bike or not, the 636 is no where near a 1krr; while it might be more nimble, few riders are going to be able to make it run with the 1krr, and if you yourself have the skills, the 1krr will dust the 636 in almost any situation.....more bike for less money, not to mention the reliability of the honda vs. the kawi....doesn't seem like much of a decision to me...but then again i already made mine

Yea, I don't expect much enthusiasm here for my decision. The 636 was more of a test to see if I'm even going to actually ride much. It allows me to try before I buy the 1000. Buying a new 1000 then finding out I'm not into riding anymore would be VERY expensive lesson. You must admit, this was such a sweet deal on a fun little bike that I can always break even on later which.
