Finally, found a great forum with great info!

Hello everyone,
I just picked up my 92 F2 Friday night. I am the 3rd owner of this bike and it only has 13,400 miles on it. From what I have been told (recipets to prove) by the last owner there are a number of new itmes on the bike. First off it has new front and rear tires, new front and rear brakes and roaters, new chain and a new rear axle. I am fairly mechanically inclined when it comes to cars and trucks, but not bikes. This also isn't my first bike but it's the first bike that I really plan to use on a regular basis and do a lot of work on myself.

The paint job was done by the last owner and isn't great, but not horrible either. He lost a bunch of the original screws when he removed the body parts and used zip-ties (where can I get original screws from?). The tank seems a bit loose, how can I secure that better? The 2 screws seem tight enough, are there some spacers or vibration pads underneith it that I should look for?

The bike seems to be in great mechanical shape and all the electronics work form what I can tell so far.

One thing I noticed yesterday was that I *think* the fuel switch may have somehow been put on backwards. I ran out of gas while on the highway but the take had plenty in it. I think I had it set on the reserve tank (was pointing down though) and ran that empty (is that possible if the main take has plenty?). I switched it UP and it started right back up.

Ok, I'm sure I'll have a lot more questions as I get to relaly know the bike but I think that's enough for now. Great threads, can't wait to really get into it and learn more about the bike.

Nice bike. Looks like it was dropped at some point, but perfect for a starter bike. I love f2's

Just watch your cam chain tensioner lifter and your voltage regulator/rectifier. They are both VERY common problems on these bikes.

ps. my bike has lots of zip ties too, just don't tell anyone

Not really a "starter bike" for me, just my first purchased bike that wasn't a friends or relatives. I've been riding for about 16 years off and on.

What do I need to do to watch the cam chain tensioner lifter and your voltage regulator/rectifier? What do I need to actively do?

The stock hydrolic cam chain tensioner lifter can get really noisy and chattery. IF it goes 100% truly bad and is really loud, there is a chance that when the motor is running full out that the timing chain can skip teeth and grenade the motor (very slim chance of this..) so really, its just a thing to replace if you want a nice clean, quiet sounding bike.. not a chattering thing. An APE tensioner is best and what most people here probably change too. I put one in my bike this year and its been awesome, alot quieter and calming hehe.

The regulator/rectifier is what converts generated AC voltages into useable DC voltages and @ 12V for the motorcycle to use. If the rectifier goes, you could blow bulbs, your computer, your battery. Basically, anything hooked up to your electrical system. I guess there isnt really anything you could do actively except for just testing it regularly with a voltmeter to ensure that it is providing the bike with proper voltage and not over/under powering the system. Running, you should between 13.8v to 14.8ish @ 4-5k RPM somewhere in that range. Lower means your battery won't be charged properlly, and higher means stuff is gonna start burning off and melting.

Regardless, nice bike again! enjoy it!

Congrats!
I just bought an F2 a few weeks ago and love it! I"ve ridden some of the newer bikes, but these are so much more comfortable and fun.
Enjoy.
