WD-40 is kerosene based.

What does WD-40 contain?
While the ingredients in WD-40 are secret, we can tell you what WD-40 does NOT contain. WD-40 does not contain silicone, kerosene, water, wax, graphite, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), or any known cancer-causing agents.

Emphases is mine. oddly, they also state that WD40 is safe for rubber. i wonder if they mean natural rubber...

Safe for rubber, HOLY COW BATMAN!!!

Lazyman's procedure: Put bike on rearstand, run in 1st gear, lube INSIDE of chain

I'm with you on the WD-40 Knightslugger. I don't trust it. I'll see you guys later, I need to go clean & lube my chain.

Your chain will be fine if you CLEAN with WD-40. I know riders on another forum that have logged over 20,000 miles on chain/sprockets using WD-40 to clean, NOT to lube. And this was prob. the stock chain/sprockets.

You'll be fine.

What is the difference between wax and Hondas expensive chain white graphite lubricant? Is it just wax doesn't get dirty as fast? The guy at my dealership suggested the expensive white graphite spray stuff because it doesnt fling. /shrug I'm a noob sorry. =(

It's not really wax, it's just a really tacky lubricant. Fling and Sling are the same thing.

Just buy the Maxima chain lube, or Justice Brother's Chain Lube. either one will work just fine.

Here's some info on the Pro Honda Chain Lubricant

Has anyone used Bel-Ray Super Clean Chain Lube?

I bought it at a kawi shop. The guy told me that it was the best for fling and not picking up dirt.

I use degreaser like the purple stuff, clean the dirty lube off the sprocket/chain hose it off and let it dry. Then let the bike idle for a while in N till the heat transfers to the tranny and roll around in 1st for a couple min. just the warm the chain. This lube says it works best on a warm chain. The lube sets up in around 10-15 min and after that no fling. The only thing is that its white. Alot of guys like the clear stuff to keep everything shiny. I would rather see the lube I don't have any to impress.

you guys that use wd40 to clean your chains should read some articles about it, it very bad. it rusts the inside surfaces of the chain. noone mentioned wd 40 hurting the o ring or x ring of the chain. just that it cuase damage to the chain becuase it washed the grease and lube out of the inside of the chain cuasing the surfaces to rust

hey guys the pressure on the o-rings keep the lube inside, so it really dosent matter so much what you clean it with because there sealed really good anyway. next time when you put on a chain you will notice how tight th o-rings are.

I like the Honda Pro Lube (in white, black, red can). Doesn't make the chain look dirty either. No fling.
