I bought the 1krr on memorial weekend. Its a fun bike and definately fast but it does require alot of attention especialy from a new rider like my self. Before buying the bike i had rode an r6 and thought it was ok but im really glad i bought the 1krr. The first day i had it i scared the crap outa myself on it and ive been takin it easy ever since and ridin it almost everyday (the only days i couldnt were when the damn trop storm came through...f#$kin florida weather sucks sometimes!). If ur lookin to buy one as your first bike i suggest takin it real easy on the wrist cause the front tire likes to come up and just cause u have a 1krr doesnt mean u have to be like every other jackass on the road that has a bike and swerve through traffic. Ease your way into it. Dont worry it doesnt take that long to feel comfortable on it.

Just bought one, but it hasn't been delivered yet. I am expecting it this weekend. I started a thread "I DID IT!!!" to get everyone's feedback about a CBR1000 as a first bike. Overall, my experience is that most will say don't do it, but the ultimate decisions and responsibility is yours. I will let you know how I've done when I get a few days experience.

kinda sorta; i haven't owned a bike in more than 14 years, but rode extensively when i was younger...bought my 1krr in may and haven't looked back nor do i have one regret...bike requires so respect, but then again so do any other bike....

i got mine in april. bought it off of a friend and he had to ride to my house because i had no idea how to ride. went down once but i would have gone down on a 600 also just being stupid and missed a turn. i was asking this same question on another forum and they told me i was going to die and stuff like that. my opinion is that a bike is as fast as you ride it.

i agree. i just got mine!! i have ridden motorcycles before, but not a lot and not a sportbike. i havent ridden on it yet but there are a lot of people that say i'm gonna kill myself. idk though but there are also a lot of people that say it can be done, just be very cautious.

'05 1000RR is my first bike. My only previous experience was a weekend on 250s at the MSF Basic RiderCourse. I had every intention of buying the 600RR after comparing it to the ZX-6R, R6, and GSXR-600&750. I asked to try the 1k just so I could purchase the 600 without any lingering doubts. I fully intended to be terrified by the bike, but in fact the exact opposite was true. I found the extra low-end torque and overall lower operating revs made me feel far more comfortable than on the 600 (perhaps the electronic steering damper played a role as well, but I don't have the experience to say). Beyond that I loved the deeper sound, the titanium paint scheme unique to the '05 1k, the hydraulic clutch, and the adjustable clutch and brake levers. Roughly 2000 miles into it, and absolutely no regrets whatsoever! One thing is for sure; the bike far, far exceeds my limits as a rider. If I was much younger than 28, was significantly lighter than 200lbs, or was more of a thrill seeker I'd probably consider myself having made a mistake. I've been driving a 400+bhp car within my limits and incident free for over 5 years now. Without that experience I'm not sure I'd be so strictly riding comfortably within my limits, which otherwise would again have me considering the 1k a big mistake. I've read various comments that you learn faster and/or "better" if your limits exceed the bike's, but I'm just in this for personal, amateur fun. I'm loving every careful minute of growing into the 1k, and I enjoy that the end is nowhere in sight. ~Ian
