*sigh, good news and bad fellas.

Just got accepted to the police academy, I start in Sept.

Bad news, I don't wanna ride my bike to and from the academy...I have too much gear to wear and then I need to store it somewhere and I have to probably carry a lot of books to and fro....and I don't wanna use the bike also because I'll be exhausted after the physical training and classes and don't wanna risk going down on the bike...getting hurt and not being able to finish the training.

So, I will either sell my beloved f2 and get a used car....or keep the f2 in storage.

What do you think?

Keep it for sure. I goto school and lug tons of crap on my F2 all the time. 2 things you are gonna need though, A. a tank bag (icon makes a good magnetic one) and B. A good backpack. Between the two things, you can haul a crap load of books and stuff with you on the bike. And you won't be THAT exhausted. Trust me, selling it would be VERY regretful on your part.

Speaking of tank bags (not trying to hijack this thread, sorry), do you suggest the Icon one? I was reading some other threads about bags and people were saying the magnet types didn't work well on CBRs, but maybe they are referring to the newer CBR bodies.

Honostly, I haven't tried the icon bag on MY cbr, but I have tried it on a BMW R1150R and a Kawasaki Ninja 650. It worked well on both bikes. On my bike, the previous owner used a clip on tank bag, you can see were the clips went under the tank edge. I just use a large backpack right now.

Keep it. You'll regret as soon as you sell it

First of all, congratulations!
Second, this would be an awful place to look for an unbiased opinion!
You'd miss the f2.

THanks for the well wishes!

I am so excited....and yes, I think I will regret selling it.

Maybe I can store it at my relatives house.

What do I need to do to keep the bike from getting messed up? Would it just be easier to store it at my Mom's house, then ride it on weekends?

or

Store it for good-- but what do I need to do to keep the carbs and fuel etc...from getting messed up while in storage?

thanks!

store it for sure. I'm in the military and I'm station in North Dakota so I didn't bring my bike up here cause it'll get f***ed up by the weather, bugs, roads...etc etc. Good thinking with knowing you're going to get the crap ran out of you, I know they ran the crap out of me in the military police academy and their job is to beat the crap out of you. Just keep focus and you'll be fine.

Honda dealership actually have a little booklet they give you for FREE, and it'll tell you exactly how to store you bike. Get a cover for the bike and you should be fine.

Good luck to you at academy.

Thank you very much Flying I appreciate it

Okay I'll try to find that information from Honda... and I already have a cover and some security devices to keep it safe!

Has anyone ever stored a bike?

If at all possible store it at your mom's. That way you can ride it a bit on the weekends and won't have to worry about letting it sit.

Drain your fluids, oil, coolant. Fill your Gas tank to FULL, that'll keep the inside of your tank from rusting. Either take your battery out but it's best to keep it on a battery tender. That's all I remember...

Good info thank you

I am leaning more toward just riding in on weekends like you said Cbr.

But I'll keep the info in mind if I store it Flying

Overall I could save money I think by just riding it on weekends... the academy is off on weekends anyway so what a perfect excuse to ride!

No need to buy bike stands if i store it...no need to drain fluids or add fuel stabilizer to the gas tank.

No need to worry about battery.

I'd sell a kidney before my bike, I made that mistake once, never again.
