Ok due to my mysterious electrical short on my bike, I purchased a new (used) wire harness. I found one on stuntlife for a good price. It's from a 97 900RR. My bike is a 95 900RR. I know the 95 has the 893cc motor and the 97 has the 919cc motor. Other then that I don't think there is too much of a difference. Will the wire harness off the 97 work on my 95? Everything looks the same as far as I can tell. The only difference I can visually see is the fuse panel up front on the 97 harness uses the small blade fuses. The fuse panel on my 95 uses the larger blade style fuses. The panel is the same, just different size fuses. Same amps though. I just don't want to tear my 95 apart and put this new harness in and have it not work. Thanks in advance.

The 96+ models drive the speedometer off the countershaft sprocket, and the guages are different, so I would imagine the plugs on the back of the gauges are different. Sounds like a project that would require splicing your gauge connectors to the 97 harness so you can use the speedo...Or a REAL big headache if it goes wrong again since there will not be a book in the world that could troubleshoot that!!

Is it 96 & up or 98 & up that drives the spedo off the countershaft sprocket? I thought it was on the newer ones that they did that.

MR NEON!! Look at your bike ( I did in the photo gallery) see the little thingy on the sprocket cover?? That is your speed sensor pick up. I was wrong!!! 95 is the first year to have the speedo driven that way..So your harness from the 97 will work fine!! Good Luck!!
I confirmed this info with a HONDA MICROFICHE

Cool,
Thanks for the help and encouragement. Hopefully i'll get to mess around with it this weekend and get her running. I'm missing on some great riding weather. I have the complete wire harness, plus access to a running 900RR I can try and test parts from if need be and I also have my non running 600 I can "borrow" parts from if needed. So hopefully I will have some good luck. I'm due for some finally.

the only thing i can think of is i think a 96-99 has a tps, a pre 96 does not. the harness should still work, with an extra connector that you wont need.
