So, last sunday I attended a track day approx 10 km from my home. We started with a check of all bikes to see that all was OK. The guy who checked mine thought that I aught to adjust my brake handle further out so that it would`nt bottom out when it starts to fade. I did so, but all I can say afterwards is: WHAT F***ING FADING!! I did´nt notice any brake fading at all, even though it was a hot day! I thank the Gods that I decided to change my front tire before the track day, that new Avon Viper Sport really handled well. I installed it the night before, so it was interesting to watch how deep I had leaned the bike in each pause. Towards the end of the day I managed to get so far down that I scraped the pegs on the foot rests! FUUUN! Well, that´s what I can come up with for now. If anyone is wondering about something, feel free to ask, but don´t expect any proffesional answers, because I´m a lousy track driver If you have the patients to wait for it, watch the video: Click here to see Video Yesterday I wen´t on a little trip with the guys from the MC-Club to a nice little diner about 140 km from home. We had our coffeé and sat and talked for a while, wen´t back to the bikes and surprice! Hey, who have moved my Bike?! I didn´t park it there? Wait a minute, it´s still there! Heheh, a twin to my bike, niceeee. Check the photo! Thumbnail Image

What a luxury having a track so near home ! Even if it not meets high standards it provides a very good recourse for training and I'm sure you went to sleep with a big smile that day. I really enjoyed looking at the video and noticed that you have comittment, pace and great fun. I did another form of real fun driving last week which I could recommend since it within reach for you as a Swede. I went to the beautiful town Pragh thrue Germany for a couple of days by car. The driving on Autobahn is increadible fun for speed maniacs, e.g. from Nurnberg to Pragh the freeway is brand new, and you can drive for hours at any speed you want as long as you watch up for possible blockings and respect all others on the road. I driving a Volvo S60 T5 which has a stable chassie. The turbo engine is set to 300 hp/ 400 Nm. It has a top speed of a few kilometres above 260 km/h (GPS). To be on the safe side not to overheat the turbo or other parts, I only use maximum load for about 30 s at a time, and no higher speed than about 225 to 235 km/h for the extended periods. We also passed Nurburg ring on the way out, but the track was not open for public that day which my wife was real happy for...

It´s a track called Monzta, located in Alvdalen, Dalarna(Mid-Sweden, about 350 km north of Stockholm). Originally a winter-driving training track for police and ambulance drivers and Volvo Security Driving Academy, rebuilt this spring to be suitable for motorcycledriving. And yes! It was fun!!

Yep, very cool video. In fact, I'm jealous. We have some twisty roads within a 50 mile radius of my house and they have allowed me to drag a knee and a get a few scrapes on the knee pucks. I'm building a camera mount for the bike and my buddy has one for his helmet. I asked him to mount it backwards on his helmet (its stuck on with velcro) and get some video of a big bike proving it can be laid right over. In order to go to a track day, I would have to go through something called NESBA (New England Sportbike Association). The closest place to me is 6 hours away. Glad you had alot of fun!!

Very cool video and the track is a VERY fun time. For you Americans here, Canadian or US, you can take your bike to the track. And you'll have a ball if you do. I work as a call-in guest coach with Team Pro-Motion and they have dates all over the east coast. I just worked Shannonville Ontario with them last week-end, will be at Pocono next Friday, again the end of the month as well as up at Loudon. Before the year's end, several more Pocono dates, VIR, Beaverun (near Pittsburgh), Summit Point, etc. They're at Mosport this week-end. Plenty of dates available. And for the new track riders they have a very nice intro course to get you off in the right direction (so to speak). They're a fun bunch of people, too. Here are a few pics of my '90 at Beaverun a couple years ago when it had 90,000 miles on the clock. And if anyone would know how to host a video, I have several laps taken from turns #1 thru#4 at Beaverun including a pretty good slide, tire marks and all! Thumbnail Image

You can upload those videos to a couple different sites that are free. Here's the links. http://videos.streetfire.net/ or http://www.youtube.com/ Once you get em loaded, let the forum know, well, me mostly as I would love to see them.

Thanks. Here's a link to that video. Sorry about the quality. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRjWGekd-QI The video seems to lag slightly behind the audio, progressivly worse as the video plays. It's at Beaverun, near Pittsburgh. The video is at a track day with Sportbike Track Time, running in their "fast" group. That group starts at about 1:15's and faster. There's a lot of traffic that day. The best known lap on that bike was a mid 1:06 where the track record is about :58, set by Larry Peagram on his R-1 and during a race. I was advised by others that I have run in the 1:05's when I didn't have a timer on so can't vouch for that. Typical fastest track day times on full race bikes are around 1:04 and the stray slightly faster to near a minute flat. The bike is bone stock except the front sag set with new spacers. It is also on original suspension, including fork seals, and with 90,000 miles on the clock. It's now at 122,000 and has had fork seals replaced. It is ready for motor freshen up but was crashed hard last year. It has been completely mechanically repaired and test ridden, all good, but is on the back burner to finish cosmetics due to other commitments. I AM keeping it and WILL ride it again.

Real nice to see that pace on an old CBR and you seemed to keep a position in the front group. It looked a bit scary at the end when the rear slided but it never got out of control. After seeing how you drove and what the bike i capable of with the right driver, I'm less surpriced that a friend of mine cant follow me with his GSX R 1000 -05 in twisty roads.

Yeeeha!! Nice driving dad! I´m guessing it wasn´t your first time on a race track? Let´s hope that i´ve started a trend here, I wanna see more vids of our beloved bikes! Speaking of lap times, my bro´s clocked me a couple of laps on Monzta, my best lap was 1.14.7, track record was 1.03 or 1.04, this was my first time ever on a track...

After seeing how you drove and what the bike i capable of with the right driver, I'm less surpriced that a friend of mine cant follow me with his GSX R 1000 -05 in twisty roads. That group was running about 6-8 seconds off my usual lap times. Being a track day, you don't pull any really close passes but there's a section at the back that's really fast and has a couple of kinks in it. I finally passed a whole bunch of them back there and broke out of that jam up. Then I got a bike entering from pit out that slowed me up, again extending track day courtesy. If that had been an actual race you wouldn't give that up so readily. And that's the difference that makes it a track day and NOT a race. No silly stuff, no tight passes, but otherwise, run as hard as you want. Makes it reasonably safe and fun for everybody! Edit add: And the slide? Keep your cool, it's "just a thing". That's a benefit to running relaxed and legs loaded. Hold the throttle steady or lift just the slightest amount. It'll come back in line if you didn't let it get too far out, and you can pick your butt up off the seat the slightest amount on the pegs so when it does snap, you don't get pitched badly. You take the snap through your legs. After about six good, fast laps on a 608# bike, the DOT tires start to get too hot (+185 F). They start to get greasy at those temps. They're really nice up to about 165 F. This is where slicks might help as they are fine beyond 200 F.

No, not the first time at the track. But probably less time than most would think. I have the good fortune of living near some of the best twisty riding anywhere and have taken advantage of that for thirty some years and to the tune of 20,000 miles average per year. That's a lot of practice time! And those lap times you ran? Nice job! Anytime you can get one of these tanks running within ten seconds of the track record, you're cooking! Remember that those records are on race prepped bikes, fresh race rubber with just a few laps on it, typically a top rider, and going for the gusto. Race times and records are usually a good four seconds faster than the fastest track day times. The pressure of the race brings out just a little more in the riders. If any of you guys decide to give it a go, make sure to remove the centerstand even if your track day club doesn't require it. You can hit the arm on the left and it will unload the tire and set you on your ear. It also helps to remove the tin covers on the pipes as they can hit but aren't as likely to upset you because they'll give a little. On mine, even the brake pedal has been ground at a bevel and the plastic lower kissed, up by the clutch cover.
