When you guys are just riding around town and doing the speed limit for a change... what RPM's do you run the bike at. I just purchased a '01F4i and in traffic I've been running the RPM's about 3500 just cruising. Is this too low? Should I be running it higher?

I usually cruise around 5k. 3500 seems low to me.

That's what I'm thinking would be better. I'm just not used to anything that revs up that high. I'll give 5k a try and see how it feels.

i filled up my tank the other day so im trying to see what the extreme end of the "gas mileage" spectrum is if i constantly granny shift. so for the past few days iv been keeping it under 5k which is rather tough when you hop on a large interstate like I66 and everyone is doing 70+.

iv found that if im at highway speeds, i can do 65 mph in 6th gear right at 5k rpm. if im just goin around town, with maybe a 45 limit, ill keep it in 4th at around 4k

Let me know how your gas mileage works out. I'm curious about what the extremes are. I've just finished my first tank and got 45.8mpg. That was with a lot of high rev stop light to stop light stuff and some highway on ramp rippers. Love those. Now I'm going to try and keep the revs and the speed down and see what I get.

As for the RPM questions...I run about 5500-6000 all the time when cruising. If I am lower there is no response or I feel like I am in a Neon! I go over and above when I choose to get on it. That is the crest of the hill for me. I want to be ready to roll down the hill without a moment of climbing left! I feel you just have to figure out your style of riding and go with it. If you want to conserve gas and putt around then cool cruise at 4000 or lower If you want to "KILL 'EM ALL" then be ready to fire the rockets around 5500+ Either way you are your own man and need to find what you like. These bikes were built to fly and can and will handle it all! Honda is notorius for being strong as an OX! You can not kill these things!

P.S. Laconia this year was rockin'! Very wet with the rain but hell isn't it all worth it? Once again the hottest chicks were at the "Roadhouse" When I get the pics developed and online I will post them for all to see!
