Rode my 1990 F-L for the first time today. She's been in my garage for a few months since I bought her after my VFR800 was destroyed by a nice driver who 'didn't see me'. Took her (the bike not the lady) to be MOT'd, she passed with flying colours. The tester was surprised by the power of the front brake - thanks Goodridge.

I bought the first model (SC21 - F-H? F-J?) back in 1988 (I think) and I'd forgotten just how comfortable the CBR is, and of course how it just keeps on accelerating....

Anyway, a question. Bit of a silly one this, but when I twist the throttle, the engine kill switch assembly moves a bit too. I can't tighten it up so is there something like a tab broken inside? Could I drill a little hole and use a self-tapping screw to secure it to the handlebar?

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks.

how about grip tape? I used that when putting new grips on my dirtbike. Obviously you would have to cut it down to the width of the surface of the housing. Your idea of drilling a hole would work. It wouldn't jeopardise the integrity of the clip on or anything.

They do have a locating pin so it's very possible that it's broken off. Mine is a '90 and has 122,000 miles on it but never gave me any trouble in that area. It can move slightly, the play in the pin, but that's all.

While you're at it, make sure the grip isn't rubbing on the switch body or the bar end weight at the other end. If it is, take some time to remove the grip, clean it up, and re-glue it with grip glue. That'll keep it in place and the throttle working freely.

Thanks for the advice guys. The grips are Motrax heated, I don't think there's any rubbing but I'll double check.
