There are two jets per carb in the float bowl that can be removed. It is the main jet, which reminds of a round nut on top of a brass tube, and another jet which looks like a 2 inch long brass tube. Both of them will unscrew counter clockwise. Is it the same jet on all carbs you cant remove, or just one jet in one carb? I remember that all jets in my carbs where quite hard to remove, so one has to use a well matching screwdriver/wrench.
