Greetings:

I have a third brake light installed on my BMW R1100RT, and will have one on my CBR1000F shortly.

The third brake light is exceptionally effective at keeping folks following me from running me over:

If you elect to get one, it is a simple matter of wiring directly to the brake light bulbs connectors, and setting the flash pattern on the red Whelen TIR3 to whatever you feel is appropriate. I use three short pulses with a half second delay between each set of three, and find it to a be a highly effective safety enhancement. They are so bright, that cars typically stop a minimum of two or three car lengths behind me.

Also, I am convinced that being seen is one of the keys to not getting clocked. I am sure no one here will debate that opinion.

I am using a Kisan Pathblazer setup on my R1100RT. The light on high beam is astonishing, and with the high beam oscillating for daytime operations, it is unmistakable. I also have two sets of PIAA 1100X aux lights on the RT as well, and so being seen, short of another driver being unconscious, in a coma, or dead, is likely. I am certain the combo of lights have prevented people from pulling out in front of me.

I hear the genset and voltage regulator on the CBR is not up to a significant load being applied to it, so I won't be adding in aux lights of the PIAA-type to it. Any discussion on this point is very welcome. I have seen PIAA's new LED aux lights that by virtue of low amperage, low voltage, high output, might be a suitable alternative:

Going to give a set a try, and will report back on the results.

Thanks for all the input received. Still planning on picking up Independence, next Friday, July 14.
