How can I slow down the bike?

HkySk8r187 -> How can I slow down the bike? (7/19/2006 6:43:56 PM)

First off, this is a great forum, thanks to everyone who helps out.
Ok, I have a stock '04 F4i and I'm wondering if it's possible to change the gears to make the bike slower and less touchy. I'm thinking it will be a good idea to slow it down a bit until I get comfortable with the bike and maybe this could help the bike be slightly more forgiving. Thanks in advance for the help...

smaller sprockets ..will give u less bottom end ..but more top end, i think your best bet is your throttle ..lol just take it easy

I agree, just be easy on the throttle. You will regret having to take the smaller sprockets back off to put bigger ones on later. Just a waste of time

Ok well I go easy on the throttle however what I'm worried about it the accidental cases where I give it too much throttle (for instance hitting a bump and my wrist slightly turning). It would be nice if the consequences were slightly smaller.

How hard do you crank it back when you hit a bump. Most of the time if I hit a bump I end up throttling down, not up.

Hasn't happened yet, just trying to be safe. I'm a beginner and trying to take some precautions. Just taking it easy and getting some skills right now.

Buy a smaller bike...should have started with maybe a Can-a-tuna (Katana), then worked up to a 600.

You should seriously consider taking an MSF course to help teach you good habits before you develop bad ones.

I did take the MSF course and got 100% score on everything. I didn't buy a smaller bike, I bought a 600, so any advice for the actual bike I have is appriciated.

i'd recommend just leaving the bike alone and adjust to your bike. don't modify to make it slower, cause you will just have to get used to it all over again, once you change it to be normal (or faster).

krash -> RE: How can I slow down the bike? (7/19/2006 9:05:19 PM)

I bought a 600 F4I as my first sport bike, already had a 520 conversion on it, with the sprockets changed
to give it more bottem end, down 1 in the front and 2 up in the back(i think)

anyway, it is VERY touchy, and I like you, I was very timid around the throttle control.

my advise, just ride it, ALOT, you will get the feel of it and get comfortable.
by the end of the summer, your gonna want to make it faster anyway.

if your worried about pinning the throttle over a bump ...its never happen to me, it sound like your very tense on your bike and very stiff, try relaxing on it, be loose dont be stiff as a board

wow..interesting posts. well first off...just relaz and keep your wrists up...like they taught u in the class...nobody ever has that problem...cause its not a problem. your making mountain outta a molehill. im still confused on the whole gas thing tho..cause its not like your on some 500 hp bike that will flip if u snap the gas...if your in second, pretty much no matter what rpm and snap the trottle it will not wheelie or throw u..now if u pop the clutch and shit..maybe. but listen to the ppl who are tryin to wheelie and stuff cause if u read more on the forum u'll c thats its not that easy to do..specially if your not tryin to do it...

meh my two cents...ps..i love the can-a-tuna..AH HAHAHAHAHAHA funny funny
