I’ve decided the CBR1000RR is the way to go for me. It seems like a good balance for my intended use. I’ve owed several bikes in the past, the last of which were my 2001 Hayabusa and 2002 R1. I loved both bikes in California. I used the R1 in the tight twisties and for track days, took advantage of the Hayabusa on long rides and over the long straight-aways near my home. However, Georgia is a different ballgame and I think a litter bike is better suited for the area. Then, of all the liter bikes, I think the big CBR has the most suiting ergos (not necessarily most comfortable, but what I’m looking for) and well-rounded performance. I just can’t to 185+mph speed runs in Georgia like in California…

That said, I was ready to buy YESTERDAY, literally. I called 4 dealers in the “Atlanta area” yesterday looking for a deal on a 2005 CBR1000RR (or smoking deal on a 2004). I much prefer the 2005 colors and so will need major motivation to settle for a 2004. I was extremely disappointed in what I found:

Motorsports Hondo of Canton, GA-
2004 CBR1000RR, silver/black or solid black $10,150 OTD (so they say)
2005 CBR1000RR, red or graphite “few hundred more the 2004”

Atlanta Motor World-
2004 CBR1000RR, red/black or solid black $10,300 OTD

Honda of Rome, GA-
NO ANSWER IN SEVERAL CALLS

Lawrenceville Honda-
2005 CBR1000RR, whatever standard color, $10,550 OTD
2005 Repsol (not there yet) $11,500 OTD
2004 whatever color $10,350 OTD

I was most impressed with Lawrenceville Honda’s customer service and knowledge. Let me first state the these prices were arrived at following several phone calls each and significant haggling on my part.

I have purchase 5 bikes in the last 4 years, 4 of them new, and I have never had this problem. I’m also not a squid at buying things. These morons even admitted that they weren’t selling streetbikes because of the cold weather and rain, so why aren’t they willing to deal?

If someone can help me find a reasonable deal in within a few hundred miles of Atlanta, I’ll be there this week and I’ll owe you a beer. I also have family in Myrtle Beach, SC and West Virginia, so anywhere between here and there would work to. I’m wanting to pay less then $9,500 for a 2005, so with Cherokee County 6% tax, that’s less than $10,100 OTD. For a 2004, I want to see less than that. I’m willing to pay $10,000 for the Repsol, not to exceed $11,000 OTD. I don’t consider bull$hit fees like set-up and freight. Let me also say I’m in no hurry and will simply not buy if I can’t find a satisfactory deal.

Thanks….

Ben, aka snampro

Snampro -- There are two places I've heard have good deals. One in Chattanooga and the other near Birmingham. I'm kinda limited at this time. When pain pills wear off all I do is groan and lay in a fetal postition. Go get a cycle trader -- both places advertise in it. I have friends at work who have bought from both and the deal on the phone is the deal you get.

Even with the percoset, I can't even reach my bars so I'll be awhile from riding. The place I bought mine (Conyers) was 10200 out the door for the '04. But that was before the '05's arrived. If you're interested I'll give ya their #. I think I get $50 if I send them business. Just tell them I said take it off your price. But I really think you'll have to go Chat or Birm to get the absolute best deal.

The place in Chattanooga is Southern Powersports:

I'm going to give them a call tomorrow. If that doesn't work out I'll check-out the place in Conyers...
